Reflective Journaling I have presently completed 130 hours of my practical experience at Mayo Clinic, Waycross, Georgia. I am really appreciating my nurse manager, informatics nurse, and IT analyst. I am also really appreciating this precepting experience and sense as though I am improving my skills as a graduate nursing student and assembling knowledge of what it will take to become an advance nurse of honor and reliability. A positive learning atmosphere will advance excellence of care, and it is essential that training programs suggest the learning styles and preferences of persons in order for them to be applicable. Emergency department (ED) overcrowding is common in worldwide. Patients must often wait in the waiting area hours before being seen by an ED physician and much longer before being reassigned to a hospital bed. The result is not simply inconvenience but rather a degradation of the entire experience quality of care suffers, patients’ safety is jeopardized, staff morale is compromised, and the cost of care is increased (Arkun et.al., 2010). Many hospitals have attempted to reduce ED wait times, but their attempts mostly fail to produce justifiable results, for two causes. Transitioning from academic nursing student to Registered Nurse/New Graduate Nurse (NGN) within the healthcare environment is a challenging task for many NGNs. The CNO provides expectations and guidelines to follow, which need to be met by each Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) individually. As mentioned by Hunter and Arthur (2016), one of the main reasons I could maintain and improve my practice was due to clinical placements. During clinical placements we are frequently being assessed and taught in dealing with real situations. Feelings As learning is a lifelong process, I’m sure there are many things I need to improve and learn to better myself. However, the lessons I learned during the course as a nursing student shall always remain as a bedrock for my future development.
Due to working with people around in the university Colorado hospital, I believe I am equipped, ready, and determined to dedicate my life to this high level of responsibility. The leadership opportunities allowed me to develop and practice certain characteristics required for nursing. In the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit it has trained me to overcome emotional discouragement, be patient, be attentive to others’ needs before my own, be available for others, build and maintain relationships, organize events, and manage my time under a busy schedule. Moreover, knowing the competitiveness and rigor of nursing school, it has motivated me to maintain disciplined study habits to precede my goal to become a nurse. While working in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit for two years, my experience at this hospital became the most rewarding and enjoyable.
