Being active in an association does not mean just to be a member, there is much more. Being active means attending forums, meetings and conferences and also playing a role in the association. It is important as an active professional participant to have a value for the association and be significant. It is both beneficial for the development of the association and for the development of the professional individual. Active participation in a professional association gives several opportunities as participation in projects, different work chances, referrals and others that can have a great impact in the professional career. This semester I have participated in an online webinar, it was an excellent course dedicated for teaching and providing information to physical therapy students about the APTA Physical Therapist Clinical Performance Instrument. Actively participating in this webinar was important and beneficial since it gave me information as a student of physical therapist that otherwise I would had not acquired. I chose a webinar since I wanted to experience how it worked and to see if it could truly make me learn. I planned to do the webinar this semester because although is not as direct as a conference would be, it was the most comfortable way to be involved. I like to think about it as being the first step as a member in the participation scale. For the rest of my experience as a student of physical therapy at Walsh, I am going to be participating in at least one webinar per semester. It is an easy method to stay active in the American Physical Therapy Association, and an easy way to gain beneficial information for my future career. I have planned on going to a seminar next semester in Findlay, Ohio. It is a really interesting seminar about how students are mentored and taught in the context of a doctoring profession. I know they also have international events;

These competencies are essential for a professional to perform and excel in their profession.
Professional associations are often set up as nonprofit organizations and serving the interest of members of that particular group as well as the general public. One example is the American Heart Association (AHA) that is existing in conjunction with the American Stroke Association (ASA). AHA was founded in 1924 by a group of physicians in New York. Currently, close to 33,000 professional members support the organization and enjoy the benefits of AHA/ASA. The mission statement that drives this organization is “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke”. The goal for 2020 is 20 percent of death reduction of cardiovascular disease and stroke. In order to realize the better hearth and overall health to the public, AHA

Overall, the main goal is to provide safe, quality, patient-centered care that is manageable and reasonable to all and enhanced health outcomes. The IOM report offers recommendations that collectively serve as a plan “to ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training, improve nursing education, and provide opportunities for the nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts, and improve data collection for workforce planning and policy making” (IOM, 2010 p.1).
Googling the question: “ What is professionalism of a student in physical therapy program?, just in 0.81 seconds, there are about 723000 results suggestion for this. Unsurprisingly, with little effort of searching, it is not difficult to find the glut of resources out there. Moreover, these results could be somewhat (generic) answers in most of the applicants. In my point of view, the professionalism for a student in the doctor of physical therapist program also could be true for other programs, especially for health care specialty because physical therapy is one of the general practices. Therefore, (it doesn’t matter what kind of professionalism is that students consider the most important), but why and what impacted their perspective is valuable.
Nursing students often ascertain skills, the fundamentals behind critical thinking, and attributes that assist with the transition from the student role to the professional arena. Professional development is individualized and varies between each student. A crucial element of professional development and professionalism is lifelong learning (McGinnis, Guenther, & Wainwright, 2016). Clinical specialization in physical therapy necessitates advanced knowledge, skill, and experience in a specialized area of practice (American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties [ABPTS], n.d.a). The enhancement of the patient’s outcome by improving the clinical reasoning skills of the physical therapists is the main motivation behind the pursuit of an expanded role (Yardley et al., 2008). In 1976, the House of Delegates of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) approved the notion of specialization and created the Task Force on Clinical Specialization (ABPTS, n.d.b). There are many benefits to joining a professional organization and individuals become a member for a variety of reasons, but it is typically to advance or advocate for their career (Sullivan, 2001). Professional nursing organizations advocate for their members and nurses in general by providing a powerful influence and the support needed to meet changes in the world of healthcare (Matthews, 2012). According to Haley-Andrews, belonging to a professional nursing organization is important for nurses of all proficiencies. Membership can enhance the career of veteran nurses or play a critical part in creating a successful beginning for new graduate nurses (Haley-Andrews, 2001).
There are 20 speciality divisions within the ACA, which allow for counselors to gain professional development opportunities, networking, and resources to enhance professional interest and practice (Remely & Herlihy, 2016). Therefore, being a part of a speciality division allows for individuals to maximize their potential as a professional helper by utilizing tools and resources that meet the diverse needs we face in the counseling professional. For example, since I am enrolled in a Masters in School Counseling degree and am an aspiring school counselor, it would be a great benefit for me to join the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) along with my ACA
