The people around us make experiences great and unforgettable. I was oblivious to this fact before my first completely independent summer trip for three weeks. In the past, I always traveled with my parents. They were all great vacations but they were not planned or controlled by me. It was all up to my mom. This time, however, I was the one who found the opportunity to go to the seaside with a group of young people and spend 21 days there. My parents were happy to let me go on this trip; as they also saw it as an exciting opportunity. It was up to me to plan it all on my own. I learned about the surroundings of the area I was to go to, the organization which planned the trip, got to know the people and found a way to get there. You could say that this was part of my road to independence.
The deadline to get everything ready was quite short, so I was mostly just trying to get all of my things together and not building any expectations for the trip. This was probably also an important part of why it had influenced me so much. I was open for anything. Nevertheless, the trip ended up a bit expensive for my family and on my road to the seaside, I was feeling very doubtful about having made my family spend so much money on me. Then I arrived…
One may think that three weeks is not that long, but three weeks with 50 new completely different people from different parts of the world is quite something. It took almost a whole week to only remember their names. The very first evening we had together, we all went to a café in the center and it had karaoke. After having sung in a choir for a big part of my childhood, this is something I totally enjoy. I was the first brave one to come out and sing “Mamma Mia” by Abba. It has become a trad...

...y life. It made me more independent and taught me the true value of relationships. There was much discussion among participants about the organization of the trip. Many negative sides and mistakes were brought up. Regardless of all of this, the trip even now seems completely amazing and breathtaking to me. It was not because of the accommodations we had or the food we ate. The people made the trip what it was. The people gave me unforgettable memories and let me experience completely new emotions. Thank you to each and one of them for being part of that summer for me.
Once I got home, my life started to change bit by bit. I continued long conversations with the guy I met and by spring the next year I got a job. That job allowed me to visit over six people from that summer’s trip. This experience inspired me to change my life and thus changed the inevitable future.
When I was in the seventh grade, our class went on a field trip to Cherokee, North Carolina. The trip lasted four days and three nights, but the adventure would last a lifetime. The experience allowed me to learn many things about myself and to reflect on the beauty that was all around me. We departed at six-thirty in the morning, and I was so excited. I had never been away on a school trip for longer than a few hours. I tossed my purple duffel bag into the storage compartment, found my seat by the window, and prepared for what I knew would surely be an unforgettable adventure.
Overall going on a vacation is something I want to do more in the future. I learned many things from this vacation such as even though you go with some people you don't know as well, you get to know them and by the end of the vacation it's like you have known them your whole life. This vacation brought my friend Lisa and I closer because we experienced things together. Going on a vacation with someone makes your relationship stronger and you find out many different likes and dislikes about each other.
Everyone is from different places so the diversity of the group is wide ranged. The trip allowed us to learn more about them and where they are from. At the end of the trip, we gave out our social media information and our cell phone numbers. We currently have a group chat going on and it allows us all to stay in touch. Someone will text that they are going to get something to eat, and then someone else is responds saying they will join. We laugh and make jokes with each other and we inform one another when something is going on so that everyone is aware of it. If I see someone from the trip, we always greet each other and ask how the other is doing. I see someone from the trip at least once a day by walking around campus. Everyone got along well on the trip, with no fights and no drama. I'm glad to say that it is currently still like that. The people I met on this trip are some of my good friends here at the University, and I’m happy that I was able to meet
This was going to be my first missions trip and the first time that I was going to be flying without my parents. I knew going into the trip that we were going to be doing hard work and that it wasn't going to be anything glamorous. I expected to see and be exposed to conditions and situations that I would never see here in Canada. I also expected to be put in situations that were out of my comfort zone. But in spite of all that I was excited to go. I couldn't wait to get on the plane and start the trip.
Every once a year my family and I decide where to go for a vacation over the summer. This past summer we decided to go on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. Our vacations are usually just by plane or by car, but this year my parents wanted to make it interesting and suggested that we go on a cruise. The next day we bought our tickets, parked our car in the lobby , and started up the escalating stairs to be approved. The moment I stepped into the ship I could feel the wave of adventure pushing me down with excitement.
One week this summer I was able to live in a completely different world than the privileged one I had been living in all my life. This summer Memorial Road Church of Christ took me to Honduras on a mission trip where other students my age would be serving the people and church there, rebuilding houses smaller than my room for whole families to live in. The mission trip allowed me to learn a lot about the people of Honduras and myself. It was put into perspective for me how blessed I am and how much I take for granted and how much I think I deserve, while people are much happier than me with much less than I have. The trip forced me out of my comfort zone, which was challenging, but I always felt like a stronger person after finishing something I did not want to. No matter how uncomfortable I got, serving the people in Honduras who really needed it was fulfilling, and the impact that it had on me was greater than anything I had ever experienced before. One trip to a disabled children’s orphanage allowed me to appreciate my
After two plane rides and a long four hour bus trip all fifty of us finally arrived in Farmington, New Mexico. It was my first time being away from parents for more than a couple days and my first mission trip. I was extremely nervous. I thought the trip was gonna be a miserable ten days. It was the summer going into my senior year and before I left I was having a blast hanging out with my friends, going swimming, riding bikes, and relaxing every single day. The last thing I wanted to do was go on a church mission trip, but my parents insisted that I go. My parents said, it would be a, "great experience" and "life changing." They were right! I did not believe them until I got to the reservations. Met all the amazing Navajo Indians and learned
I had to leave my childhood home and move to a place I had never seen. I would have to attend a school I never heard of. One thing enjoyable moment throughout the whole day was the plane ride. I had never flown before and it was one of the few pleasant moments of the experience. When we arrived in California, I could not believe how different my surroundings were. For the first time in my life I saw what mountains looked like. The air surrounding me was different. The weather was unlike anything was I was accustomed to. It truly felt like a new place. While in route to our new home, my family drove over the Golden Gate Bridge. The house in California was completely different that my home in New Orleans. The neighborhood was more diverse. Interaction with neighbors was unlike anything I was used to. The neighbors didn’t speak when you walked out your door. There wasn’t a local market to walk and get a snack. I tried my hardest to look at the situation in a positive light. This proved to be tough, but I made the effort since I would be starting school soon. My best option was to make the most out of an unusual
This vacation, albeit horrifying, was my first exposure to medicine. The divorce that followed trained me to view challenges as beneficial so I could deal with what I couldn't control productively. The process of losing our home to foreclosure was a defining time for me in high school. My sister, my mom and I spent the next four years
Cesare Pavese once said, “We do not remember the days; we remember moments.” Everyone goes on a vacation at least once in their lifetime and probably goes on more than one family vacation. Family vacations are time we remember for the rest of our lives whether they were exciting or extremely boring. Family vacations are usually fun times spent with your family camping in the woods, skiing down a mountain, or going to the beach.
Asia was awesome! Everything, from the food I ate to the people I met, gave me a new perspective on life. I still cannot get over the fact that I have traveled to the other side of the world. This school program gave me many memorable experiences, allowed me to learn a lot about the culture of Asia, and introduced me to friends that I'll treasure for a life time. I knew that there was a reason I got to go, and while I was there I tried to make the most of such an opportunity.
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
Going on a road trip with my family means the world to me. We drove to another state during summer vacation, and it was by far the best road trip I have ever been on. My family and I were able to go to many fun places. We ate so many exotic and delicious foods as well. Yet most importantly, I spent time with my family and their friends. It was the day when my family and I went to California for our summer vacation.
Throughout someone’s life they will go to many places with their family, friends, another relatives. I have been on a few vacations that have made a lasting impact on my life. But one of the most memorable vacations I have experienced was with my cousins. I went to goa beach. Most of you probably don’t know about that beach but it is a very famous one in south India. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. The beach environment was enlightening. I would not have wanted to take this trip with anyone other than my cousins. We had a great time on the ocean sands and swimming in the ocean everyday made this vacation unforgettable.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
