I have come to realize that volunteering is really much more than that just taking an hour out of your week and just showing up to help. It is about taking initiative and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, and your own. Volunteering makes me more aware of the world and opens me up to new experiences. One of the volunteering opportunities that has shaped the person I am today is I Inspire Sports camps, which my cousin started when I was in middle school. His camps are special because they are based on serving, loving, and inspiring children with special needs. The camp is pairs high school athletes in the community with children with special needs. Inspire was the base foundation that I used and the camp that was able to change me as a person and made me realize that I really can help and mentor kids with special needs. I was able to be a little more confident. Through Inspire Sports, I was able to find out about different programs where I could further serve the needs of my community. One of the other volunteer opportunities I seized was a mentor for The Miracle League of the Fox Valley. For the past two years, I have helped at The Miracle League of the Fox Valley, where I was paired with a ten year old girl who would not participate in sports with her peers due to her disability. With my assistance, however, she was able to take part in an opportunity that many of us take for granted. In addition to The Miracle League of the Fox Valley, I have volunteered through National Honor Society renovating homes,raking yards for the elderly, cleaning ditches, ringing bells for the Salvation Army amongst other things. These programs have undoubtedly improved the quality of life in my town and greater community, but they have also impacted
