Indicators of Professional Knowledge

As educators we are required to follow relevant curriculum documents, I am fortunate enough to at the beginning of my career while the National Curriculum is being implemented in schools. This advantage means all my training links to the National Curriculum and my understandings are current and relevant to the quality standards.
I understand that the Australian curriculum is comprised of English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History), Mathematics, Science, Technologies (Design and technologies and Digital technologies), The Arts (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts) and have an in-depth knowledge …show more content…

It is paramount to first provide a safe and supportive place where children feel free to contribute without hesitation and have access to all the materials they need to successfully learn without interruption, without an inclusive place to learn and be it cannot be expected that children will reach curriculum goals successfully. Second to this a classroom must maintain a consistent and clear set of rules, expectations and management techniques, in my first year I have had the opportunity to use and reflect on a myriad of techniques and find those that best suit my children and own pedagogies. I believe there must be consistency in all that you do and expectation should be set from the beginning of the year. Children should be responsible for their own actions and learning, an example of this in my own practice is allowing the children to write their own set of ‘classroom rules’, as a result I am no longer the rule enforcer, an expectation is placed on all children to abide by a set of community decided behaviours. Additionally, I also practice a restorative justice approach to conflict management where children are scaffolded to solve problems amongst themselves, rather than always needing the support of an adult to ‘solve’ the issue at
