Just a few centuries ago, English was spoken by elite sections and rich people in India. Today there are more non-native speakers than native users of English all over the world. English is nowadays official language in over 60 countries. At the time Indian independence, English was the language which was for only administration. India, after becoming independent in 1947, was left with a colonial language, in this case English, as the language of government. Kachru (1986: 111) rightly says that “English functions in the Indian socio-cultural context to perform roles relevant and appropriate to the social, educational and administrative network of India.” Since it is international language, in the present days, there are many different types …show more content…
They are commonly used by Indians who speak English as a second language. Non-Indians who do not know the words cannot understand the meanings intended by the users. They are, indeed, emerged from the local language schools and colleges. Some of the teachers and most of the learners are hardly using English in government institutions. When they come out side of the schools and colleges, all the English teachers and lecturers too communicate in their mother tongue so that they are encouraging the people to use Indian English or Hinglish or Tenglish. Indian English is not only spoken by Indian speaker, but also written in Indian literature. Great Indian writers such as Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh used a number of Indian terms in their works. There are many reasons for why they use Indian words. May be, there are no exact words in English for some Indian words. They use translations of certain characteristic expressions and idioms. They impose the native speech rhythms on the English language spoken by the Indian characters in Indian …show more content…

The first document “From Antislavery to Women’s Rights” by Angelina Grimke in 1838 supports the assertion that women were essentially domestic household slaves. One passage that supports this assertion is “By this doctrine, man has been converted into the warrior, and clothed with sternness...whilst woman has been taught to...sit as a dollar arrayed in "gold, and pearls, and costly array," to be admired for her personal charms, and caressed and humored like a spoiled child, or converted into a mere drudge to suit the convenience of her lord and master.” Which concurs that women were touted around as a personal belonging of their husband and admired for their charms, or they were just a drudge, which defined means: a person made to do hard, menial, or dull work. The previous agrees with the assertion that women were domestic household slaves for the reason that watching multiple small children and doing all the work that it takes to keep a house running would most definitely be tiresome, repetitive, and menial work to perform day in and day out. Another passage that supports my ...
In the early 1900’s, women who were married main jobs were to care for her family, manage their houses, and do housework. That is where the word housewife was come from. During the 1940's, women's roles and expectations in society were changing quickly and a lot. Before, women had very limited say in society. Since unemployment was so high during the Great Depression, most people were against women working because they saw it as women taking jobs from men that needed to work. Women were often stereotyped to stay home, have babies, and to be a good wife and mother. Advertisements often targeted women, showing them in the kitchen, talking with children, serving dinner, cleaning, and them with the joy of a clean house or the latest kitchen appliance.

As history and technology changes, the pre conceived notion, and mold for a woman’s role in society is drastically redesigned in accordance to what becomes deemed as socially accepted. From even as current as years of adolescence the “traditional” role of a housewife was instilled in youth, but when factors such as technology, and the economic collapse, these traditional roles were quickly discarded. Women now had to grasp the concept of supporting a family, and in some instances coming home to a stay at home husband due to lack of job demand, and with the rapid growth in technology and inescapable access to technology younger generations of women are no longer depending nor fixed on the notion of fulfilling a traditional mold. One of the most important factors in the British loss of control over India was the establishment of English as a unifying language. Prior to British colonisation, India was fragmented and multi-lingual, with 15 major languages and around 720 dialects. English served as a common ground for Indians, and allowed separate cultural and ethnic groups to identify with each other, something which had rarely if ever occurred before on a grand scale. Although it was mainly educated Indians of a privileged caste who spoke English, these were the most influential people in terms of acting as facilitators for nationalist ideas to be communicated throughout the populace. The publication of magazines and journals in English was also a great influence on the rise of Indian nationalism. Although most Indians received nationalist ideas orally, these journals allowed Indians who were literate in English to come into contact with the ideas of social and political reformers.
Baby boys sleep in painted blue rooms and grow up playing with toy trucks. While, little girls pretend to be princesses as they sit around a table with an empty teapot and cups. Gender roles don’t disappear as people grow older. Men attend work to provide food on the table and a roof over their families heads. Women usually spend most of their time nurturing their kids, keeping the house clean, and attending to anyone’s needs in the family. Although, gender discrimination has improved slightly over the years the term “housewife” will forever remain in America’s

When applied to a family “the family works towards the continuance of social inequality within a society by maintaining and reinforcing the status quo” (Boundless). The family has become a sort of social arrangement that benefits the men more than women allowing the men to maintain positions of power due to the patriarchal nature of a family. By keeping the family in a caste system of sorts where women never have the opportunity to rise above the men inequality can persist in communities outside the family and thus on a greater scale as communities are built upon families. This leads to the perpetuation of the housewife
A home is a place of residence for everyone which they use to take rest or to even gather with family. Most young people think about living away from home as the best part in their lives because they will have more freedom. however, they do not realize that living at home has more benefits compared to living away from home. It can be seen that English has become a global language, which is determined by lots of factors like history, culture and daily usefulness. Because of these factors, the number of people who speak English is still increasing now. English, as a significant part of social life gradually exerted profound impacts on education, job hunting and international communication. Even though there are advantages as well as disadvantages, the need for international language for communication, politics, economics and security is necessary and English is the best “language candidate” for that function. English is a language spread all over the world and it is used by millions and millions of speakers. According to my opinion, people should use English as a tool to communicate with all cultures but every country must keep their culture and language is a great part of it. In conclusion, language defines identity of a country and everyone should keep their language and explore others.
