To implement formative assessment in vocational nursing English teaching, we need to follow some basic principles. With the guidance of them, we can make the evaluation system become more reasonable, so as to ensure that the assessment does not deviate from the correct direction and truly reflect that teaching evaluation serves for the students’ development.
(1) The Principle of Incentive For higher vocational nursing students, their English level is relatively low and most of them are in a negative emotion for a long time, plus the difficulties of professional vocabulary. The evaluation index plays a role of baton which has a strong orientation. The development of students is the starting point and destination of all educational activities. In determining the evaluation factors and criteria, we should focus on the development of students and the improvement of students quality. Besides, during the process of learning, formative assessment should pay attention to the three questions: “Where are the students going?” “Where are they now” and “How can they get there better”. formative assessment should be able to guide the teachers to pay attention to the students strengths and weaknesses and put forward the suggestions to improve learning. Meanwhile individual differences of students should be paid attention to. The teachers should take the personality development of the different students into account, respect and recognition of students’ individual value orientation, develop their subjective consciousness, let them participate in the evaluation actively, strengthen the internal motivation of their initiative development. The different students can shoulder their own responsibilities according to the specific circumstances. The students are required to show their learning outcomes with a variety of opportunities, so that they can achieve progress and development through the evaluation of their shortcomings as well as their merits
