Food and Culture Food is a part of everything; culture, religion, family style, and survival. A lot of beliefs can be seen through food styles, choices, and preparation techniques. There are also moral values that go into these decisions as far as vegetarianism and veganism is concerned. Now it’s not even just about making food for survival anymore, but about the art of it. Different food practices are a key element in giving each culture it’s unique style and feeling. Food is an important part of culture. Food has been around for much longer than the Ancient Egyptians, but that is where any really detailed information about past eating habits start. Cultural interpretation and understanding factors include; race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and socio economic class, this is the same for religion (Lambert). Religion has influenced civilization all through the ages. In culture, religion was used to explain the world around them and how it plays into civilization. There were gods and goddesses that were worshiped through sacramental rituals that priests over sought, giving priests power over the people. Royals believed that their powers were god given and that they had to stay in good accord with the priests or they could lose their power. This gave the priests power over the government of this time period.
