Over the many years, I have seen a plethora of negative effects from the unprotected environment, which is causing our world to get worse day by day. Examples of these negative effects can range from small things, such as seeing garbage out in the streets, or it can lead to more harmful things, such as the pollution in the air, and the unpleasant effects that the air has on people’s health. Yes, I believe that the motivation to protect the environment has improved greatly from where we were before, and people have come up with fantastic ideas to protect and improve the environment, however, there are still not enough people making the right decisions to make the world be in the best condition it can be in. Most people rarely think about protecting the environment because they do not believe that it will affect them in any way. They also believe that other people will do all the work to make the world better, and cleaner. Included in almost every single reading about environmental protection, it always seems like they repetitively include the same things; Air pollution, water pollution, recycling, and chemicals. The reason for that, is because it is extremely important for people to know about, and to take action. Even though they have been warning us for hundreds of years, we still have not put in enough effort to keep our environment healthy. In order for us to be able to successfully protect the environment, everyone must put in the effort to do so. Pollution is a main contributor to the dangers of the environment. Air pollution has become such a problem, that based from the World Health Organization (WHO), it says, “Outdoor air pollution has grown 8% globally in the past five years, with billions of people around the world now exposed to dangerous air, according to new data from more than 3,000 cities” (Vidal). The health effects of pollution could be irritation of the eyes, nose, or throat. It can cause wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and breathing difficulties. Including those things, it can also worsen existing lung and heart problems, such as asthma, and can increase the risk of heart attacks. Long-term exposure can actually cause cancer, and it can damage the immune, neurological, reproductive, and respiratory systems. In extreme cases, it can even cause death. Having the knowledge of these health effects helps us to better understand that pollution is extremely dangerous if we continue to not do anything about it. The people most at risk with air pollution are children, older adults, people who are active outdoors, and people with heart or lung diseases, such as asthma. Besides the health effects that air pollution has on people, it most definitely has its effects on the environment as well. Effects such as acid rain, which is precipitation containing harmful amounts of nitric, and sulfuric acids formed by nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels
