Education and labour skills are essential for a fully functioning logistics and supply management system. In Southern Africa there is a lack of education and skills within the logistics system, which means unskilled labour and less effectiveness and efficiency. Education is the single most important aspect in order for a country to achieve success and wealth, the more educated people are, the more people can make intelligent and effective decisions about the economy and the logistics and supply chain management functions. Southern Africa does not have a strong education system in comparison to the global market in which Southern Africa compete in, which limits its full potential that it has to be a functioning logistic powerhouse which all countries want to receive exports from. The higher the number of exports leaving Southern Africa, the greater our economic growth and development which empowers the country. The key for successful operations within any business is education, without it people would never know what to do or how to handle difficult decisions. It’s the foundation of life and it allows for personal and organisational growth. As Theodore Roosevelt said “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad” (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_education.html)
The low levels of education in Southern Africa play an important role in the costs of logistics therefore it has a direct impact on the growth and development. The goal of logistics is to deliver the lowest cost, while delivering high quality products and to outperform the competition that you are up against. By having low education, those objective becomes faint, and i...

...even the actual quality of the product which could set the company back and could lose valuable customers due to bad weather constraints. This could happen anywhere and is unpredictable so logistics managers need to monitor weather patterns consistently to avoid any mishaps from happening. Another challenge is geographic positioning. The positioning of the manufacturing sites or eve the storage facilities could increase logistics costs. Logistics cost may vary by the geographic position of each, the further away the industrial capital is away from the coast lines, logistics costs are bound to increase due to higher transport costs which makes Southern Africa less desirable because the prices of exports will steadily increase and it could get to a point where Southern Africa’s economic growth will decline resulting in higher inflation and more unemployment.
...dustrial Distribution allows me to pursue my interests in both Business and Engineering, and therefore I chose that major. Also, it will help me to build my personal characteristics that will make me successful in this major. As my education continues, I look forward to learning how manufacturers and distributors maintain good communication and relations, so that the products can be distributed efficiently and avoid problems. If there are problems, I would also like to comprehend ways to solve those problems. In the future, I hope to work for a company such as Amazon, Dell, or Boeing in the field of logistics. These companies depend on logistics in planning and conducting their operations. Since logistics and relations between manufacturer and distributor are critical to the everyday operations of businesses, understanding this will help me in my future endeavors.

In the past two decades, transportation cost of cargo has decreased that has aided in improving productivity and economic growth. Nonetheless, the operations of the market forces and the rising cost of fuel as well as environmental concerns impact on the cost of transporting goods from one place to another. Subsequently, the high cost of moving goods will be felt throughout the economy affecting enter...
Logistics exists to satisfy customer requirements by facilitating relevant manufacturing and marketing operation. The main responsibility of logistic is the geographical positioning of raw materials, work in process and finished inventories at the lowest possible cost.
The main area of focus in this article is on the evolution to a successful business model of Supply-chain management. About two decades ago there were the “traffic” managers with a sole responsibility of transferring freight to outside world. After that came the physical distribution management which was broadened to logistics management. Then the advent of supply-chain management made the transportation distribution and logistics professionals are the key in transforming into an effective business process. The Supply-chain management incorporates the activity of moving goods from raw-materials stage to making it available to the end-user covering the procedures of sourcing and procurement, production scheduling, order processing, inventory management, transportation warehousing, customer service and an information system to monitor all the activities.

As an Industrial Engineer with more than 15 years of work experience, I choose Supply Chain Management (SCM) because I believe that logistics is the most dynamic, vibrant, challenging, technology driven area, and the future of any big national and international companies. It will give me the opportunity to know behind the scene of improving the companies’ performance by using SCM tools. If I work in this field, I can get my answers and a chance to work in the market of raw material, purchasing, production, distribution, logistics, and final goods. After finishing two semesters in the College of Business at University of Houston Downtown (UHD), I am really passionate about it and want to gain my knowledge in the logistics sector, learn new techniques and skills, and seek new opportunities.
In our culture today, there is a huge emphasis on education, especially higher education. Society basically says the more educated you are, the better off you are. That is pretty much true if you live by the means of society. The basic idea that education, especially a college education, is something that people should pursue even into their adult years is not by any means a new idea.

The South African educational system has been through many changes dealing with cultural, political, and social issues. There has always been a concern about equal academic opportunities for all the races within South Africa. Where most of the black South African students are given the disadvantage and the White students have the advantages. It wasn’t until 1994 when things took a slight turn for black students in South Africa. That year marked the end of the apartheid. Theoretically non-white students were now offered the same education as Whites. Although in South Africa there are still some areas that the government should offer more beneficial teaching and learning for all of the non-white students. These challenges the South African education systems have been through and are now in the process will further influence an equal opportunity for black South African students. The question this research paper asks is, about how does education vary for black and white students in South Africa, after apartheid ended? There are still economic, political, and racial difficulties for non-white individuals.
