Education and labour skills are essential for a fully functioning logistics and supply management system. In Southern Africa there is a lack of education and skills within the logistics system, which means unskilled labour and less effectiveness and efficiency. Education is the single most important aspect in order for a country to achieve success and wealth, the more educated people are, the more people can make intelligent and effective decisions about the economy and the logistics and supply chain management functions. Southern Africa does not have a strong education system in comparison to the global market in which Southern Africa compete in, which limits its full potential that it has to be a functioning logistic powerhouse which all countries want to receive exports from. The higher the number of exports leaving Southern Africa, the greater our economic growth and development which empowers the country. The key for successful operations within any business is education, without it people would never know what to do or how to handle difficult decisions. It’s the foundation of life and it allows for personal and organisational growth. The low levels of education in Southern Africa play an important role in the costs of logistics therefore it has a direct impact on the growth and development. This could happen anywhere and is unpredictable so logistics managers need to monitor weather patterns consistently to avoid any mishaps from happening. Another challenge is geographic positioning. The positioning of the manufacturing sites or eve the storage facilities could increase logistics costs. Logistics cost may vary by the geographic position of each, the further away the industrial capital is away from the coast lines, logistics costs are bound to increase due to higher transport costs which makes Southern Africa less desirable because the prices of exports will steadily increase and it could get to a point where Southern Africa’s economic growth will decline resulting in higher inflation and more unemployment.
