At the early age of 21 I found that life can throw you a curve ball, and it’s what you do in that situation that can ultimately define you. While attending TVCC for my AA in Education, I decided the marriage I was in was not healthy for me and my 2 kids and became a single mom. Since providing for my kids became my primary focus, my childhood dream of achieving my bachelor’s degree was put on hold and I entered the workforce. After 3 years of dead end jobs, I managed to stumble into a career as an office manager; advancing upon that career for the next 17 years. As the office manager for the Boise and Eastern Idaho locations, I graciously attended several trainings and received certifications in areas of human resources, OSHA Health and Safety, and DOT regulation’s. In addition, I was honored to mentor 8 other locations in corporate policies and procedures, along with the SAP database training and transition. When my position was eliminated, I found that I fell in between companies wanting a bachelor’s degree for a position I’d excelled at for 17 years to overqualified. When summer came without any job prospects, I decided to head back to school for my long awaited bachelor’s degree. During the 2014-2015 year, I took a variety of classes trying to decide if I wanted a change in my future career. After some soul searching and not knowing exactly what I should do, I figured I should align my degree with the 17 years’ experience I hold. With my open schedule, I plan to use a combination of online and F2F classes. For me there is something exciting about the camaraderie I receive working face to face with the professors, along with meeting new people with goals like mine. That being said, I would also like to take advantage of some of the online courses to help cut down on my travel costs to campus along with the expense of the parking
