The creation and history of all technologies have help society developed, in a political sense. Photography, a form of technology, have helped documented significant moments in the past and present. In a political sense, photography was used as a symbol, which created emotion response, or as propaganda. Furthermore, Border security, created to aim to protect and conserve countries. In a political sense raised concerns due to events of the time. The advancement and development in technologies have had a direct correlation with political development, in areas such as border security and photography. This essay argues that from the early to the late 20th century, photography has both impacted society and border security, which have raised concerns during the time frame. By looking at the exploration of these technologies, we can come to understand the impact they have in a political sense, within society. Firstly, I will explore how photography was first used in the 20th century and later how the use of photography developed over time, affecting the way we use photography today. Photography, created by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre (1787–1851, was aimed to be use as historical evidence, documenting the living conditions, relationship between individuals and historical moments of the time and ‘document life in great detail and considerable precision and certainty’ In doing so, these photographs helped ‘construct a sense of national identity’ within an individual of that time. In the chapter, “The Mirror with a Memory”, the authors, James Davidson and Mark Lytle, describe numerous things that evolved after the civil war, including the life of Jacob Riis, the immigration of new peoples in America, and the evolution of photography. The authors’ purpose in this chapter is to connect the numerous impacts photography had on the past as well as its bringing in today’s age.
During the past years of the 1900s many factors have happened that resulted in the change of the United States history and future. It changed the everyday lives of Americans of how they survived and supported themselves and their family, in both positive and negative ways that affected them daily. For instance, the political affairs of the government and the election of candidates for certain parties like democratic or republican can affect the history of the country, on how the government or Congress passed laws that were of equal protection to its people and how it helps benefit both civilians and the nation itself. On social occasions this could affect the United States history because it is solely based on how the people will react and respond to a certain topic, action, or movement. Their opinions may differ depending on where they stand, on how they look at it from their perspective in their belief on morals, religion, or sense of patriotism to the United States. Advancements in technology affect the nation’s history as well because the improved technology in the 1900s provided many uses for the Americans. The basis of these technologies were to offer entertainment, transportation, communication, military, and also for labor tasks and work. But the events that occurred during 1945-1980s also established these significant altercations in history; were of either social, like The Beatles. In the nineteenth century, the innovation and invention of new technology took off. More inventions and innovation came out of the nineteenth century up until World War I than any other time period in history. From the concept of time, the improvement of transportation, and even the telephone; the camera has definitely made its mark in history. In 1839, the camera had gradually become the new major medium used in the nineteenth century. It was the invention that changed artwork and gave everyone a new way to represent itself to the world. Gay-Lussac called it “a new art form in a new civilization.” Photography represented Paris in three major ways. The new technology influenced a new way of painting where the artist began capturing their subjects in action versus a still portrait pose. And with the Daguerreotype being available to everyone in the public, it was becoming easy to travel to Paris for events. The regular working class people and artists to go to Paris to see the city and bring imaged back home. And finally, because of how photography represented Paris, the tourism industry began to grow gave the city of Paris the money and inspiration to reconstruct their city into the city we picture it to be, a city full of change, innovation, and excitement.

SUMMARY OF EVIDENCE Battle field photography was not developed for the sole purpose of recording events as would a newspaper or painting. Battlefield photography brought intense images directly from the field to the public, bringing the horrors of war to families so far from their husbands and sons (Niller). The photography institution brought the reality of war to the public in manners newspapers were incapable of (Harvey 73).
What is border security? The United States Customs and Border Protection define border security as a “top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the U.S. while welcoming all legitimate travelers and commerce. CBP officers and agents enforce all applicable U.S. laws, including against illegal immigration, narcotics smuggling and illegal importation. Therefore, in order for the United States to be successful in securing the nation’s border, there is an essential need for border security. This has not been an easy challenge but it is something that has to be done otherwise imagine how great a disaster our nation would be. For over 86 years, the United States' approach to securing its border with Mexico has seen many changes and improvements, all of which have contributed positively to the prevention of illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and potential terrorism.

Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.

Photography Is used for business, science, manufacturing, art, recreational purposes, mass communication, and more. Photography is using light to do amazing things, and some people think of photography as a story that just needs to be told. Ansel Adams probably believed this. He said, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” Photography has a long interesting history, like the fact that the word photography is made up of two greek words, photos meaning ‘light’ and graphein which is ‘to draw’ ! Photography also has some complicated techniques to get a hang of taking good photos. Have you heard of the rule of thirds? Or do you know how a camera works? Well, that will all be explained. Maybe, by the end you will take up photography too. This essay will explore the history and types of cameras and the basic rules for taking photographs.
In Sontag’s On Photography, she claims photography limits our understanding of the world. Though Sontag acknowledges “photographs fill in blanks in our mental pictures”, she believes “the camera’s rendering of reality must always hide more than it discloses.” She argues photographs offer merely “a semblance of knowledge” on the real world.
Evolution of more than just a Camera? Cameras have documented many events in history that refuse to be forgotten. Some pictures capture life in a different time and captivate us into a moment that seems far away and perhaps mystical. Images can be found from WWI, WWI, and even as far back as the civil war. Not only are the horrors of war captured, but many other memorable moments as well. Photography has created an outlet for the masses to story tell. It has a way of speaking without words like most art forms and is a manner of expression in itself. To eradicate photography from humans would be equivalent to taking away a limb from humankind. Our society has grown an immense amount of dependency on it. Photography has become almost a daily menial task such as brushing your teeth; where we must take pictures of the things we deem important or equally unimportant, even more so with the invention of social media outlets such as Instagram and Snapchat, where photography is the main source of communication between people who use them. Susan Sontag offers the basis of what taking pictures can undertake in both our daily lives and moments that are not part of our daily lives, such as travel. Traveling to places where one is not accustomed can flare pent up anxiety. A way to subdue that anxiety could be through taking pictures, since it’s the only factor that we have total control over in a space where we don’t have much, or, any control of our surrounding environment. On the other hand, taking photos can also be a tool of power in the same sense as it allows for it to be a defense against anxiety. With the camera in our hands, we have the power to decide who, what, where, when, and why we take a picture. This in turn also gives the person who took the picture power over those who later analyze the photos, letting them decide the meaning of the photo individually, despite the intended or true meaning.
In today’s day and age, we take even the simple things, like photography and film, for granted. Everything has become more user friendly, simpler, and faster by changing over to the digital realm. Photographers and film makers from the 20th century had it a lot harder than we do today. They basically had to do everything manually; even including something as small as flash photography. Both pictorialism and film play an important role in documenting events in the world around which we live, though have very different meanings when it comes to their expressions of art styles. This paper will examine the works of D.W. Griffith and Alfred Stieglitz, and cover how pictorialism and film changed how we as a society view the photography and film industries today.
