Implementing a school dress code has both positive and negative effects on the students following the limiting rules. Dress code can affect students attitudes, personality, motivation, stress level, and influences in numerous ways. The effects it can have on a person vary in both good and bad ways. While possibly fixing a person attitude and negative traits it may also alter one 's personality. Over time there has been arguments and court cases discussing the fairness and constitutionality of this movement. Dress codes and hair regulations have increased a great deal over time leading to more arguments over the controversy. Educators refuse to agree on the benefits of having a dress code within schools. Some say it creates a better learning environment and urges students to have a better attitude towards school. Other educators argue that it does not affect the learning process in any way and students should not lose their self expression over something so minimal. The author of this article emphasizes many examples to prove both negatives and positives on this idea in her article researching dress codes. She takes past cases and current events to argue the constitutionality of forcing a dress codes onto students. After arguing both side of the case she comes to a conclusion in the end about over all dress code approval. “Allowing schools to adopt dress codes that calls for uniforms is one small solution that has positive results,” (para 90). This writer both agrees and disagrees with statements made in this article. The statements made in discussion of dress codes relieving stress from students is easily believed. The article comes to a conclusion that it is constitutional when a learning environment is put at risk and dress code is necessary to the extent that schools administrators wish to push it. This writer believes a decision should be made whether to implement a full uniform that is the same between all students, or not implement a dress code at all. A dress code can benefit students and schooling systems in numerous ways. However, it can also have some negative effects on the students. This is the time in a student 's life where they must find themselves and express who they are more than anything. A dress code or school uniform can interrupt that process in some ways. At the same time it can decrease gang affiliation, violence, stress, and many other negative situations that no student should be in.
