Unemployment surely takes its toll on a nation all together affecting our country each and every single day. Unemployment can be rather common in areas of depression and impoverishment. When an economic crisis comes about, many lose jobs and guide our country in high rates of unemployment. When a person loses their job, their income is automatically cut off from that point on. One lost paycheck can lead to one family losing their home. Deficiency of a steady income can result in poverty, home foreclosures, and inability to provide for oneself and their family. Among a house with little to no income with children in it, they are deprived a nurturing education and stable life. Even when people file for unemployment the government only gives out so much money to help them continue to make some sort of a living. The government pays nearly 50% of the money the unemployed would usually use on a monthly basis to help compensate for their employment loss (Simpson, Stephen D.). Apart from financial matters, unemployment can also bring about an increase of health problems among those of the unemployed. Constant stress about a lack of income can cause troubles to an individual’s health. Maragaretha Voss from Sweden conducted some research that would reveal unemployed people to develop serious health problems (Leahy, Ph.D. Robert.). Some people begin to take on bad habits such as smoking or drinking, which can lead to a decline in their overall health. Some other thing common among individuals after unemployment is the loss of mutual knowledge of former job skills. Low demand in the goods market would mean low overall output, and therefore low demand for labour, over the last 20 years, demand has raised overall hence demand deficient unemployment will reduce. During times of recession there is very little output and not many people are needed in the workforce. This leads to high unemployment levels. For what has been a very, very long time, our elected representatives have sought to achieve “full employment” as a national goal….but full employment has been suspect as a possible cause of inflation, and is therefore weakened by decisions of the Federal Reserve, in an attempt to retard inflation. In terms of causes, unemployment has changed; the character, degree of severity, possible solutions of unemployment over the last ten years or so have been reduced, and has morphed in terms of just who is experiencing the unemployment and the suggestions for answering the problem. It has been the traditional fundamental trades, like manufacturing, viewed as part of the shift in the economy towards the new information age model, as workers transition from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, all the while over-coming the obstacles set forth by our own government.

Introduction In the Wall Street Journal dated September 6th 2013, an article titled, ‘Unemployment Drops for the Wrong Reasons’ describes how unemployment has dropped in the United States based on the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics population survey. According to Izzo (2013), there was a drop in unemployment rate to 7.3% by 0.1% in August 2013. This was coupled with a drop in broader measures of unemployment by 0.3% to 13.7%. Under closer scrutiny, the drop in unemployment came for the wrong reasons (Izzo, 2013). The arguments in the article are that the decline in the rate of unemployment is purely due to adverse factors in the US economy.
Unemployment also leads to untreated depression, poor performance at work and loss of a job. Continued unemployment increases the risk for serious depression. Combination of several traumatic events will ultimately drive a person into depression. Depression is most often triggered by multiple stressful events that occur within a short period of time like the financial problems, unemployment, and problems with family and friends.

The largest cause of unemployment can be attributed to recession. The term recession refers to the backward movement of the economy for a long period. People spend only when they have to. (Nagle 2009). With people spending less there would be less money in circulation therefore, enterprises would suffer financially and people would suffer too. This is so because recession reduces the fiscal bases of enterprises, forcing these enterprises to reduce their workforce through layoffs. These enterprises lay off their workers in order to cut the costs they incur in terms of wage and salary payments.
Unemployment is a macroeconomic factor that is pertinent to an extensive economy at a regional level. Therefore it affects a large population rather than a few select individuals. Unemployment does not only have social costs, but economic costs too. The ILO, International Labour organization, defines unemployment as, ''People of working age, who are without work, but available for work and actively seeking employment.'' Therefore implying that it is a state of an individual looking for a job but not having one. Unemployment is one of the key indicators in determining the economic stability of a country; hence governments, businesses and consumers closely monitor it. There are numerous aspects that might lead to unemployment such as labour market conflicts and recessions in the economy. There are two main types of unemployment, which can be focused on, seasonal and cyclical unemployment. Seasonal unemployment occurs when a person is unemployed or their profession is not in demand during a particular season. On the contrary, cyclical unemployment occurs when there is less demand for goods and services in the market so consequently supply needs to be decreased.

The effects of prolonged unemployment went from lowered health and living standards, to protests, and general anger at the current state of affairs. This high unemployment rate was brought on by the economic backwash caused by the Great Depression. The depression took the wind out of the sails of British commerce. It lowered the expectations of common people and made them question the system under which they lived.
What if one had to work long hours, with countless hours of no sleep, a stress level that was skyrocketing, earning money that could barely support a family? There is a woman approximately the age of forty working full time at a restaurant. Her hands were wrinkled from washing dishes in bleach water. A few white hairs have grown under her thick, black hair. Dark bags are under her eyes, which seems as though she does not get much sleep. This is how the average low working employees suffer! Many people are stuck in this crisis. Behind this woman the truth has not yet been seen, but these truths will soon be revealed. The forty year old woman comes home with a backache and eventually when her conditions get worse she would have to go see a doctor. However, there is one problem: she does not have medical insurance and she cannot afford to go see a doctor when she is already behind with her bills and rent. She has enough stress at home and she works hard to make ends meet, but it is not enough. Low wage jobs negatively affect the physical and psychological state of the working poor.
In December 2007, the United States of America experienced a very scarce yet appealing setback. In fact, because of this specific dilemma between 200,000 and 500,000 were left unemployed and without a stable home. One of the most life changing effects of unemployment is the loss of income. Especially if they are a single parent of if they have a large family to support. Having no money means eventually having no food, no clothes, no shelter, and no car. It also prevents one from doing many things and activities, even though their amount of leisure time has increased. One might not have money to go to the movies, play on sports’ teams, or do any other recreational things. Being unemployed for a long enough time leads to a lot of debt. Any money that has been saved ends up getting spent rather quickly with all of today’s living expenses. Twenty thousand dollars may seem like a lot of money to some people, but with no income that money gets spent before you know it.
