IT, "Information Technology", refers to anything related to computing technology, such as networking, hardware, software, Internet, or the people that work with these technologies. Many companies have IT departments for managing the computers, networks, and other technical areas of businesses. IT jobs include network administration, computer engineering, Web development, technical support, and many other related occupations. That means "IT" already highly overused, is here to stay.
The development of the people these days had an affect in the development in the business world as well. People try to find the systems which can be use to help them in running the business for example to reduce the cost in running the business. Since 1950s the computer system had been use to cost.
Information Management has to do with capturing information, efficient planning, organizing and evaluating the information to interpret for an organization to make well informed decisions. (Hinton, 2006) The main reason organizations depend on information is to improve its overall management in order to yield significant operational benefits in all areas of the organization and importantly its overall efficiency, competitiveness and responsiveness. The improvements either need expansion in the amount of information required or implementing a new information management system.(Power, 1983) The information management system is effective in organizations when the activities are shared amongst various groups, preparing them for change in the information system by identifying problems and evaluating it and gradually integrating actions in the project for successful implementation. (Bass, 1983), (Mintzberg, Rasinghami and Theoret 1976). Most organizations believe Information Technology and Information Management is the same but according to Hinton (2006), while Information Technology is an important role in an organization. Information Management is broader it helps the organization to build, maintain and re-build its business processes and information system.
Information communication technologies (ICT) have been to found to play a very vital role in the world of work. These challenges inhibit them from playing their vital role in the work of work.
There has been much discussion concerning how information technology may contribute to the development of a competitive advantage. Whilst there are some notable examples, investment in information technology (IT) is often a matter of competitive necessity. The technological advances emerging from the integration of computing, microelectronics and telecommunications are creating significant changes in organisations (Stoner, et al 1994). The information technology revolution of the past 20 years has made information technology an integral part of any core business activity. Information technology management now contributes to all the management functions of planning, organising, leading and controlling and affects competitive strategy and business operations.
This project gives an insight of the company’s Information technology and information systems, their impact on the market and on the company. In today¡¦s advancing technology state, one must be aware of information management systems and how they are shaping lives. Many industries are involved in information technology, and it is that technology which enables them to survive. Five major industries are health, services, manufacturing, finance, and retail. It is hard to say which one is affected more by technology because they all are in their own individual ways. The topics of IT they all share, but the way that information technology is used and introduced in each industry makes them different. In such a highly competitive environment, businesses need to take advantage of all the technology they can in order to survive and gain the upper hand. This semester, I focused on the manufacturing industry because it is how many of products become products and how they are brought to us, the consumer.
According to Senn (1998), Information Technology (IT) is contains three components, which are computers, communication and expertise. A combination of the three components creates opportunities for people and organization to become more productive, effective and generally successful without being separated. In general, Information Technology is the main player in the information era. The technology is used to access, store and distribute the information, especially the information in the digital form. Information Technology (IT) can support activities involving creation, storage, manipulating and communication of information, which are related methods, management and applications. Besides than that, In the 21st century has brought the information era, where it is continuing with the rapid pace computerized system being used in all types of sector, from medical and space exploration to education, such as banking and manufacturing sectors. The demand of Information Technology (IT) was increased due to the usage and development of many types of complex systems. According to Senn (1998), there are six features where to differentiate the information era from the Agricultural era and Industrial era:
Information Computer Technology has already played an important role in people’s daily lives. It is widely used in information gathering, communication and mutual operation. Modern people have been benefited from more efficient information flow, less cost and faster communication. However, every coin has both sides.
