In recent years this has become a very important topic, due to the rapid growth and success that Arab Americans are showing. A wide misconception that we must apply when speaking about Arab Americans is calling them Muslims, they are used simultaneously and this is incorrect. Post 1965 immigrants mostly Lebanese and Syrian decant gained increasingly due to new federal laws that allowed immediate entry if you were related to an American Citizen . This wave also occurred due to the Six Day War the sixty’s, and the two US Gulf Wars . Riding down Warren Ave any day during the week will show the strides that Arab American entrepreneurs have been able to make. The Arab race today is neglected in a way in which they are not written about much, and are not looked upon as a powerhouse in the economy in which they should be. Examining the economic impact Arab Americans have, the struggles they faced, and the future road in Southwest Michigan is essential and must be explored.

Members of the community overcame the discrimination against them while organizing themselves in way that introduced Mexican pride and community building across their
The United States is a country known for its variation of nationalities and ethnic races. After extensive research, and questioning I discovered that my ancestors originated from Norway and Switzerland. My family migrated to the United States in the late 1800’s from Norway due to social, economic, and religion reforms as well as, a surplus in the population. Learning of my ancestor’s migration to America has very much influenced my views on the existing immigration problems that the U.S. currently faces.
The major demographic changes in the Middle East and North Africa have been the massive increase in population, and urbanization which has seen the emergence of many large cities throughout the region. The reasons for this have been because of better health care, greater mobility of the population, economic opportunities in the cities and political changes.
With people losing their jobs, it’s harder to pay bills so people lose their houses due to foreclosure. People making a decent pay wage refuse to stay in communities where every other house is vacant and vandalized. I think many parts of Detroit are still divided by color because of crimes also. People who have families or plan on starting families don’t want to raise their children around violence. I was born in Detroit, I can honestly say I love being from Detroit. My parents make enough money to stay outside of Detroit but they chose not to which I g...

Many Muslim immigrants came to the United States of American as slaves from Africa during the 1500’s. Free Muslim immigrants started to arrive to the USA as early as the 16th century, more of them started to migrate to the United State after the Civil War. Many Muslims used refuge and education as an excuse to come to the United States and start a new life. The fact that dictators dominate most of the Muslim territories usually means that there are persecutions, violence, poverty and even wars. These events caused most of the Muslims to seek happiness and peace in the new world: United States. Education was also one of the reasons why Muslims decided to come to the United States. The universities, economic status, and political freedom that America had to offer attracted more than half a million foreign students. By 1965 there was about 150,000 Muslims that lived in the United States.

America is a melting pot of different cultures, religions, ideas and identities, a country which over the years has been molded, shaped and changed by its people. There are many historical factors that gone into creating the country as we know it today, but none so influential as the immigration of millions to “the land of opportunity”. The millions of people who came to the United States in hopes of finding a better life greatly affected the course of American history, bring the the country new cultures, customs and beliefs . Irish-Catholic immigrants, “. . . the first great ethnic ‘minority’ in American cities,”(1) had a substantial influence on the industrialization, labor movement and politics of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

In the 1960s it was a hard time for black Americans. There was a revolution being driven by two well know black civil rights leaders. The first phase of the revolution was driven by a young Islamic black man, Malcolm X, who was a spokesperson for the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X was adamant that blacks needed to take care of their own business. In the issue of black integration in American culture.
Cohen adequately shows why ethnic workers should not be avoided in the study of labor history. She assiduously takes the workers of the 1920s and 30s out of their working environment and also examines them in a social setting. Using that method, Cohen proves that the ethnicity of certain workers is just as important as other traditional factors in studying labor history. Her work, consequently, will also be of significant use to political and social historians. While not an intention of Cohen, she shows that democracy was alive and well in a polyglot city. Lizabeth Cohen demonstrates in Making a New Deal that magnificant feats can be accomplished when ethnic prejudices are set aside and Americans come together.

Since the creation of the United States of America, immigrants from all backgrounds have sought refuge, a home and a life in this country of prosperity and opportunity. The opportunity of freedom to exercise natural rights is a large pull factor that causes many people to come to America. Others come because it is a country where one can prosper. Prosperity of people in a country, however, is a more challenging phenomenon to explain than opportunity. Immigrants seek economic, social and educational as well as cultural prosperity. The question of how to gain such prosperity is a difficult one to answer. Some immigrants come to America, cast off their past identity and attempt to find a new, less foreign one. By assimilating to American culture with this new identity, they start a long and treacherous journey to seek prosperity in a land vastly different from the one they once called home. Many will gain educational, economic and social prosperity, but never gain cultural prosperity. Assimilating to American culture so hastily, some immigrants are never able to explore and keep up with their cultural backgrounds. Their families grow up and became Americans, never cognizant of their given up ethnic identities. Those immigrants, however, who are able to gain cultural prosperity through the help of other immigrants of their respective background, become integrated into American society while keeping their ethnic identity. This is the sort of opportunity that the United States of America has provided new arrivals since its founding. Although many immigrants become overwhelmed with American culture and assimilate into it, those who contribute to a working ethnic society are able to dela...
Reason for immigration represents a critical aspect of individuals’ acculturation experience. Whether the immigration was voluntary or involuntary may influence future adaptation (Kraut, 1997). Historically, Arab Americans arrived in the U.S. in four different major waves, each under special circumstances that affected the acculturative process (Barazangi, 1989). This section reviews all four waves while identifying the motivators for each group’s immigration process. In doing...
...These residents are drawn by the increasing demand for service-oriented businesses ranging from restaurants to law firms and by the employment that is preserved in sectors like manufacturing. The report also finds that immigrants are boosting civic engagement through participating in their communities and in the military while creating American jobs through entrepreneurship. The Brookings Institution recently described the 10 traits of globally fluent metropolitan areas, one of which is “opportunity and appeal to the world,” where metro areas are “magnets to attract global investment, new businesses, skilled workers, entrepreneurs, immigrants, foreign students, tourists, and/or business travelers from around the world.” See The Brookings Institute, is looking at this from virtue ethics view, when what is better for the greater good when it comes to the individual.
