Virtual reality gaming could be the future of gaming, or it could be some overrated new gadget that people will play for a month and never use again. Augmented reality headsets are similar to VR, and they could be even more successful that VR. Even though there are several problems with vr and AR, I think that Vr will impact the gaming industry. Companies such as, Sony, Microsoft, and even facebook who are joining the Vr revolution. Vive is in the process of developing games made specifically for VR arcades, which are arcades built solely for VR games. The games will come with sensors that the users will have to wear to move around in the game. Virtual reality isn’t just for gaming. Non-gaming companies, such as six flags, and movie studios are also experimenting with VR. Three years ago google made the google cardboard. It is a VR headset for phones made completely out of cardboard that allows people to watch vr videos from yout ube or play games. The google cardboard only cost three dollars. Gaming companies use 360-degree videos on youtube to promote their upcoming games. Imagine you are walking home from work, but you get distracted and realize you are in a completely unfamiliar neighborhood and don’t know how to get home. You check your pockets, in an attempt to find your phone, when you realize you forgot your phone in your office. Luckily you have your AR headset on. Instead of asking someone for help, you simply lift up your hand and several icons appear in front of you. The first is the pricing of equipment. Virtual reality headsets usually sell from 400 to 600 dollars, plus the console or pc needed to use the VR. Pricing for both the console or pc could cost over a thousand dollars, but vive, which is a company owned by htc, is teaming up with google to make a portable, independent VR headset, that does not require a computer or console to operate. The release date of this revolutionary device is still unknown to the public and will probably stay that way for a while. Until then, those who can’t afford the high priced VR systems like the PlayStation VR, Oculus rift, and the htc vive can get it on their phone. For augmented realty, the Hololens hasn’t released the consumer edition yet. The evelopement edition is $3,000 and the commercial one is $5,000. But, like VR, Augmented Rality games are available for ipone and android. One example would be stack virtual reality, which is a game where the user has to tap the screen in order to stack moving blocks, if they tap their screen at the right time the block will remain the same size. If they don’t the piece of the block that is hanging off the stack of blocks will fall off.. The graphics might not be as good as a console or virtual realty, but there are many different apps and games available for vr on phones.
