While the impact of terrorism on the West is by far more predominant in the media, it is easy to understand the majority of sympathy is pointed in that direction, however on deeper analysis and whilst maintaining a partial ethical view, I disagree with this because the West are the ones suffering the least from the impacts of terrorism, and are the ones who in fact created its own perpetrator.
The west is anything but innocent when it comes to initiating terrorism. They claim to be doing the ‘right thing’ and the ‘heroes’ by fighting for their countries and saving their people from these monstrous invaders by intruding into other countries policies and fighting long wars against the terrorists killing more innocent people and causing more

Only two days after the recent Belgium bombings, at least 30 people were killed at a football pitch in Iraq by a suicide bomber, which was claimed by the Islamic State. Just about as many people were killed in Belgium but this recent bombing in Iraq had not received the media attention or sympathy that a western country such as Belgium received. And only five days after the Belgium bombings there was a suicide blast in Pakistan killing at least 74 people which is over double the amount that was killed in the Belgium bombings but again, this did not receive the major media attention and support from the world like the Belgium bombings, and this has been the third terrorist attack in Pakistan this …show more content…
The United States is themselves right-wing extremists who are responsible for the more terrorist attacks than any other ideological group. You are more likely to be killed by a police officer than killed by a terrorist in the US, but gun laws remain the same and the security and action against terrorism only continues to increase. Isis kills more Muslims, than non-Muslims, but many western countries have created the ideology of Islamophobia, and claim that all Muslims are terrorists. When one thinks of a terrorist attack they automatically associate it with Islam, but never their own. Any attacks carried out by a Caucasian often has some excuse of ‘mentally ill’ and is let off with looser terms, but never a claimed as a
For the last couple of years a rumor had been spread about all Muslims being terrorists. People started to believe that all the bombing and shootings that had been going on all over the world are caused by Muslims. This whole terrorism rumor started when a group of people named themselves as Isis, they started killing people in the middle east first and then spread all over the world under the logo we fight for Islam. All Muslims are now paying the consequences of Isis’s actions because it’s blamed on all of us not just them. Now in France Muslim ladies are not allowed to enter some shopping stores like Zara. In the United States some people are nice to us but once they know that we are Muslim, they stop talking to us and starts to treat us bad thinking that we are terrorist. Anyone who watches the new now and hears about bombing or shooting they automatically say
...mbers have used the same words before they committed their suicidal actions. The connections between terrorism and Islam are pointed out clearly when the extremists say that they are waging a “holy war” against their enemies. Extremists have used Islam as a justification to attack churches, Hindu and Buddhist temples. Due to the fact that the terrorist who carried out such criminal and inhumane acts associate himself or herself with Muslim religion, the public comes to view Islam as a severe risk. In reality, only 15% of the 1 billion Muslims are extremists and out of that 15%, only a few engage in terrorist activities. However, most news stories do not focus on the places where things are going right, but on the places where things are going wrong. Due to all this, it is clear that the extremists play a large role in pinning the scarlet letter on Muslims in the US.
One day that changed the United States forever was not a recession or a new government but a terrorist attack. In the aftermath of September eleventh, it left American’s brainwashed. To put it differently, the American media only tells one side of the story, in their favor. When an attack happens most Americans mind blame “Muslims” even before people know the full details. In post-September 11, hundreds of terrorist attacks, and actions by Western governments have produced widespread suspicion, detention, and deportation of Muslims. The number of hate crimes that are perpetrated towards Muslims has also grown dramatically. To enumerate this point, recently the act in Portland that left two men dead after they intervened against a man who had
On November 13th, 2015 the world was shocked to discover that terrorists had attacked Paris, however in the latest string of terrorist attacks one must pose the question of whom terrorism impacts the most. Traditionally, in terrorism the victim is the group or region in which the attack is target. Recently, we have seen a large shift in the brunt of the backlash being placed toward minority religions that are simply blemished by small groups of extremists, thus painting an unjust image of the religion entirely. In the case of the Paris attacks, the extremist group, ISIS, has showcased views drastically different than a majority of Muslims, yet the media and millions of people globally have created the misconception that such an anomalistic
The news today has to do with what people want to hear, not particularly what is worth while or even accurate. In the Daily Telegraph’s (English newspaper) foreign news page there is a story of an outbreak of violence by political protests in the Middle East. Patrick Bishop, the senior editor on Middle Eastern affairs, writes: "Western leaders are becoming increasingly concerned by the threat to democracy posed by the growth of Islamic fundamentalists extremism." Other headlines from random British newspapers convey the same message: "Italy on security alert after Islam terror warning; Clinton to lead summit against Islamic terror; France fears protracted Islam terror campaign; Islamic fanatics gun down Briton in terror campaign" (Edward Mortimer). This is the message that the media is sending to all its readers and watchers about Islam. These headlines may have hap...
In the United States, we have Americans that are waiting and wanting to destroy anything that has to do with our country and our western way of life, all in the name of “jihad” or holy war. Just in the past year and almost 10 years after September 11, 2001, there has been upsurge in jihadist recruitment and incidents within the United States. This seems to be a call out to all the homegrown jihadist sympathizers that were waiting to come into action. According a RAND Corporation report, “there were 46 reported cases of radicalization and recruitment to jihadist terrorism in the United States between 9/11 and the end of 2009” (Jenkins). Young men and women are being charged with the intention to harm innocent American citizens, and destroy the United States, all of them with the proclamation of being an Islamic soldier and dying for Islam as a martyr. Faisal Shahzad, the unsuccessful Times Square bomber from Connecticut who pleaded guilty June 21, said in front of a judge, “I am part of the answer to the US terrorizing the Muslim nations and the Muslim people, and on behalf of that, I'm avenging the attacks" (Scherer).
Michael Walzer is an esteemed retired professor from the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. Walzer has written many books, essays, and articles. His essay, Excusing Terror, is one that best relates to the current events happening around the world. In this essay, Walzer talks about different reasons that people would want to resort to terrorism. In this essay I will argue Walzers view on Terrorism is correct in that terrorism is wrong because it is akin to murder, it is random in who it targets, and no one has immunity. I will also offer an objection to Walzer’s theory and explain why it is not a valid one.
Many Muslims are being searched on the basis of being Muslim and no other logical or probable cause. One issue leads to another causing fear, hatred, and the desire for revenge and revenge can sometimes get out of hand. Furthermore, ISIS claims to be Muslim when in fact the Quran frowns upon such acts. Also Americans don’t want to see the fact that ISIS isn’t only targeting Christian nations, but also Muslims countries. The first ISIS attacks first started in 2013 in Iraq, killing 1041 and injuring 2,200+, later in 2104 they expanded to the west totaling 6 dead and 12 injured. Later in 2015/2016, the attacks got larger and more devastating. Even then ISIS didn’t only attack western countries but also Middle Eastern Muslims countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, Turkey etc. Yet, these Middle Eastern countries got less attention and more blame. ISIS bombed Karrada, Baghdad, and suspected to have bombed one of the holiest sites in Islam, the Prophet 's Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia. All of this occurred in the holy month of Ramadan, when every other Muslims was praying and fasting for god; and yet they dare call themselves an Islamic
In society, rebel groups are socially constructed as violent groups seeking political change in the government of a country. The motives for rebel groups are for social, religious and political inclusion of their ideas in the government. In the Western Hemisphere, developed nations are concerned about rebel groups in developing nations, especially located in the Middle East. Middle Eastern rebel groups, such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are notoriously known as Islamic extremists because of their radical beliefs against Western society. The constant threats of global terrorism by the rebel groups drives fear among the western world. Events that have affected Western societies by Islamic extremists are September 11th attacks and the Paris attacks. However, it is not only the Islamic extremists in the Middle East that are the most threatening to the world, but rebels groups in Africa cause several casualties
The threat of global terrorism continues to rise with the total number of deaths reaching 32,685 in 2015, which is an 80 percent increase from 2014 (Global Index). With this said, terrorism remains a growing, and violent phenomenon that has dominated global debates. However, ‘terrorism’ remains a highly contested term; there is no global agreement on exactly what constitutes a terror act. An even more contested concept is whether to broaden the scope of terrorism to include non-state and state actors.
Ever since the traumatic and unforgivable events that took place on 9/11, Muslims in America have been viewed as a potential terrorist. In contradiction, 94% of the terrorist attacks performed in the United States from 1980 to 2005 were committed by non-Muslims (Alnatour). The same study concludes that the rates of Jewish terrorism were higher than the Islamic rates, but when these felonies reach the news the Islamic crimes are publicized on a greater and more urgent scale. The media in America helps to expand and create these prejudices. As the world becomes more technologically advanced, one must look between the lines and identify fact from
After 9/11 has induced negative attitudes towards Muslim peoples who tend to be strongly associated with any act of terrorism. The media has played a colossal role in developing such negative association wherein it constantly portrays Muslim people in combination with violent terrorist acts. It does so in a way that they both go hand-and-hand. In other words, it has made it as though the Islamic religion is synonymous with terrorism. The media has perpetuated Muslim stereotypes over the years that followed the 9/11 incident. Because of this, society has developed, and still has developed, this prejudiced mindset about the Islamic religion and the Muslim communities around the world. People immediately assume that any violent act being depicted through the media is the direct result of Muslims. They automatically generate this idea that the act was performed by a Muslim terrorist even when they were not involved whatsoever. Regardless of whether it was true or not, Islamic religion and its Muslim adherents are at the top of societies’ agenda just waiting for the evidence to be generated so that they can then safely blame them for such world affairs. Again, this has led to the attack on the Islamic religion itself wherein people have come to postulate Islam as an act of oppression, violence and hatred towards non-Muslims. Anti-Muslim sentiments and campaigns have resulted from such misinformation the media has been generating and feeding its viewers.
Have you ever seen or been someone that heard of a terrorist attack and automatically assumed that it was the Islamic Nation? Islamic persecution has been happening for a long time, even before the tragic events that happened on September 11, 2001. The Islams have recently been blamed for many of the current terrorist attacks. Isis is an Islamic organization that has been committing many terroristic activities, which leads for many people to believe that all Muslims are terrorists. The Islamic Nation is being mistreated from the events that happened on The World Trade Center's, affiliation with Osama Bin Laden and Isis, as well as common terrorist attacks.
Before 9/11, countries where Islam was not a primary religion were not even aware of the word Jihad. Today, Jihad is a word that is met with negative emotions in non-Islamic countries. Depending on the area the word Jihad means different things. In Islamic practicing countries the word has reli...
United States of America and the west are a target of terrorists these days and have been in the past too. Attacks like 9/11 in USA and 7/7 in Great Britain have caused great deal of misery to
