Immigration is the movement of non-native individuals into a country in order to permanently live there. The movement of immigration has occurred for as long as society has existed. In the previous few centuries, immigration has brought lots of new people from other countries of the world to the U.S. According to UN figures, there are more than 45 million immigrants live in the U.S and this figure is more than four times as many living in any other nation in the world (Hess and Thomas C. Frohlich). The United States is said to be a land of hope and good prospects. That is why people from all parts of the world are moving into the United States for better life for themselves, and most prominently for their spouse and children. One of the main reasons for immigration is economic reasons. Life in poverty and unhappiness force people to search a better life. Continuously the economic distance between the developed countries and the third world countries are increasing year by year. As a result, people from underdeveloped and developing countries come to industrialized countries in order to have better earnings, better job opportunities and better education for their children. The United States has been the world's largest national economy since the 1920s (CNN Money). In 2013, the GDP of USA was $16. 2 trillion (CNN Money). That is why people from the underdeveloped and developing countries are moving in USA; to change their economic condition. Moreover, there is a strong demand for skilled workers in U.S. such as engineers, doctors, and other professionals. According to the report released by the New York-based think-tank, immigrants head up 30% of the new small businesses created in the USA over the past two decades. (USA Today). Thus immigrants create lots of jobs for all the citizens of US. It is an undeniable fact that they give priority for hiring to their “countrymen”, but often native Americans are hired by the immigrants as well. In short, it can be said that immigration is a natural process of movement of non-native individuals into a country from very past. In USA, every year a vast number of diverse immigrants come with lots of hope. Economic, politics, and education reasons are mostly motivate people to come in the U.S. Most of those immigrants become successful and contribute enormously in U.S. culture, economy, and workforce.
Immigration, the act of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. Throughout the United States’ history, immigrants faced various challenges and especially after 1880. Most immigrants moved to achieve the American dream of having a better life and pursuing their dreams. But, this experience as they moved, was different for every immigrant. Some lives improved while others did not.
The spark in the number of immigrants entering the United States began in the late nineteen sixties to the early nineteen seventies. People came to the United States because the United Farm Workers movement got jobs to provided higher salaries, improved working conditions, health benefits, minimizing segregation within the work environment, retirement plans, and even formed a credit union specifically for farm workers and immigrants. These were all factors which contributed to the increase in immigrants in the United States. (As life began to improve for immigrants within the United States, others thought the same could happen to them). Many immigrants thought of this as an opportunity to form a new and improved lifestyle. To this day the number of immigrants continue to grow, and their lives increasingly improve.
It has been said that immigration is as old as America itself. Immigration traces back as far as the 1500's when the West faced the coming of the Spanish. At that time, the Americas had been settled by the Indians, who were soon threatened by the first immigrants of America. These Spanish conquerors threatened to undermine the culture of the Indians as well as their way of life. Evidently, immigration started from the beginning of our country's time and has had an everlasting effect on America today.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants, legal and illegal, from around the world, come to the United States. These immigrants come because they want a chance at a better life; others are refugees, escaping persecution and civil wars in their home country. Many people believe the United States is the best place to go. There is more freedom, protection, and benefits, which seems like a good deal to immigrants. But the large number of immigration is affecting the current citizens of the United States. Taxpayers are forced to pay for the welfare and schooling for many of these immigrants, some who are illegal aliens. Some citizens believe that immigration can be hazardous to the environment. Others blame crime, poverty, and overpopulation on immigration. About sixty-eight million immigrants have been added to the United States since 1970, and it is estimated that 130 million people will be added over the next fifty years. The government has tried somewhat to restrict immigration but the laws are still too lenient. Nearly every other advanced country in the world is moving quickly towards stabilized population or has already achieved it. The United States is moving towards it very slowly. This country would have to reduce immigration down to 255,000 a year to do this (Beck 1). If nothing is done to stabilize the immigration to this country, what will become of population in the next decade? The population will continue to grow even faster - not due to births, but to massive immigration to this country. Immigration can become a serious problem to this country if the government does not produce stricter laws.

That started when Europeans escaped form their countries because there were no jobs and no safe places to live.
