Recommended: Aristotle's virtue ethics theory

The inquiry regarding what a moral choice is and how an individual may attain his or her aspiration has been an argumentative subject for many years. Day to day, many people decide in order to reach this end, they must utilize Immanuel Kant’s categorical imperative with the objective of duty to achieve good will. However, Aristotle’s idea of obtaining virtues through habit aids individuals to achieve eudaimonia, or happiness. On this journey, a person will rightfully establish a sense of character and distinguish the necessity of a middleman between excess and defect. Firstly, he or she must understand the action they are committing. They should be a leader and not a follower. The second characteristic explains how the individual must choose the action they believe is morally right, instead of the most rewarding action. He or she should not choose to act on a moral choice solely because other individuals believe the choice is right. Lastly, in order to perform a morally correct act, the individual should have clear and pure intentions (Aristotle, 136). The act will not be seen as virtuous if, for example, one contemplates revenge on another individual. After using these factors, he or she may determine if the action is virtuous.
Unlike Aristotle, Immanuel Kant trusts in order to reach eudaimonia, good will must be present first. Good will is not valued for the results that proceed the action, but for the good itself (Kant, 317). Instead, volition gives good will reason, which is the law. Since one must follow the law, actions are led by moral worth, which is acted from duty. Kant explained, how “duty is the necessity of acting from respect for the law” (Kant, 320). Lawrence, focusing on the tainting of the pure human mind by societal pressures and injustices. Overall, both the poet in “Snake” and Piggy, Ralph, Jack, and Simon in Lord of the Flies showcase Immanuel Kant’s theories on ethics, reasoning, and nature.
