Should high school students participate in extracurricular activities and or internships? Many would agree that yes, it gives teens valuable skills that they can’t learn at school. Teens would be more prepared for the real world, college, and in their own job. The problem is there is not the perfect internship or extra circular activities the best suit everyone and some would not know where to go. Not all high schools offer help to connect with extracurricular organizations or internship, so it’s harder for others. Our school, Arroyo High, offer limited internships and the students need the material taught to them in order to apply. Do high school students have the right extracurricular activities and or internships in high school and in our community?
Both extracurricular activates and internships allow teens to gain valuable skills that can be applied in the real world. The “real world” being the work field, specifically highly skilled jobs. Now a days it is not easy finding a job with a decent pay, it is even harder if you don’t have the right skills. It’s as simple as just participating in an extracurricular activity or internship and applying it to your resume will help you stand out in the many applications that employers look at, according to an article from the www.teenshealth.org Participating in an internship will give the student skills in a specific work field, skilled that are need to work at that place. If someone has already thought them how to do the job they atomically have a greater chance of getting that job or in the same field. Time Magazine states that managers say that “today’s applicants can’t think critically and creatively”, this is a perfect example of why students should join an extracurricular activity. The problem with this is that students don’t know that this is the problem and most students don’t know where to go to sign up for an internship or an extracurricular activity that’s going to teach them these skills. According to a survey that I hosted 74.28% of students at Arroyo High School feel that our community is lacking offers in extra-curricular activities and internships. A way to fix this problem to implement a segment in our classes that informs students about all the information they need be a part of a successful internship/extra-curricular activity.
