Illegal Immigration, defined as the “act of entering or residing in a country unlawfully or without the country’s authorization” is a major political, economic and social issue within the United States. At an estimated 12 million people within the United States, about 8.6 million of those illegal immigrants are employed, most of them illegally. This results in the issue being the center of many controversial political debates, as there is a lack of consensus on any action that should be taken. Ironic enough as it is, a nation founded on Immigrants has now become a nation divided by opinion and disagreement. Many Americans believe illegal immigration is detrimental to the economy and integrity of the United States, however with a strong work force resulting in a positive effect on the economy, Illegal Immigration is not subvert to American Society and actually has a positive contribution and impact.

This is a result of divisive government who have not updated current immigration laws since the early 90’s. When coming up with solutions, the two predominant political parties within the nation have very different viewpoints on the situation regardless of the positive effects illegal immigration brings to the government and economy. Coming to an appropriate solution is easier said than done.
