It is unfair to Americans and to the country from where they immigrated from. Whether they (illegal aliens) take jobs or put a strain on Americans social service programs, the constant invasion of illegal aliens has promoted disrespect for the law and also limits our ability to control immigration. With the many different ethnic groups coming to this country in search of a better life, we should cut back on who we should allow to have citizenship. There are thousands of immigrants coming to the United States every day. A lot of these immigrants are illegal aliens in pursuit of the elusive American dream.
Immigrants have enriched our culture and added to the great nation we are today. With about 13 million immigrants, illegal immigration is a growing problem that the United States must address, and the United States government should provide amnesty to preserve national security, jumpstart the economy, and ensure these immigrants a better life (Haerens et al. 23). Is illegal immigration immoral? A majority of illegal immigrants are poor, get no governmental benefits and have no education.
Illegal Immigration Undocumented immigration, is the act of entering the United States without government permission also called illegal immigration. Currently illegal immigration to the United States has been on the rise, with an estimate of nearly 11.7 million aliens in 2013 and increasing daily. The greatest numbers of illegals come from the Central Americas (Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala), and Asia (China, Korea, India, Philippines). The United States is an extremely sought after destination, where there is a better opportunity of providing improved lives for themselves and their children. They sometimes come for economic reasons or are pushed out of their country due to political oppression back home.
Increasing border security would help stop the influx of immigrants entering Spain. The situations in Italy, France, and Spain help illustrate the different approaches to fighting illegal immigration. Because of economic booms, countries relied on immigrant workers to provide needed labor. However, the economic crisis means more people are without jobs and immigrants are no longer needed for work. The risk of terrorist attacks means tighter border control and increased fear of people who are ideologically different.
?Others enter with legal documentation and then violate the terms on which they have been admitted by taking jobs that are not authorized or overstaying the authorized period of stay in the country? (Illegal Immigration) A bad side to having such a large amount of illegal immigrants in the nation is the crime rate and prison population caused by certain ?illegals?. ?Illegal immigration is a major cause in the overcrowding of our schools and our prisons.? (“Illegal immigrants” 1). While legal immigrants can help stimulate United States’ economic and make our country better, large amounts of illegal immigrants came to United States and they lead to higher crime rate, drain public resources, take Americans’ jobs, and make United States unsafe. There are lots of immigrants because there are several ways that people can enter the United States unlawfully. First, they can just simply find a weak point on US border and just sneak in, another way is that they get legal but temporary permits but they don’t return after their visa expires. (“Illegal Immigrants”1) According to The 2010 US census, there are 10 million illegal immigrants resided in the United States-higher than its 2000 estimate of 7 million and three times its 1990 estimate of 3.5 million.
How has illegal immigration deemed to be such a threat to the United States? First, the fact that over 11 million people were able to cross borders illegally without proper documentation shows that the immigration system in the United States has failed. The term “illegal” induces negative stereotypes as is and “stresses criminality and otherness” (Passel and Fix) which allows the public to perceive illegal immigrants as bad people, because those “who break laws must be punished and a failure to punishment is immoral” (Passel and Fix). Without these or other solutions, the loss of money and jobs will continue. If the loss of these resources continues, the U.S. might become the land of "closed doors," thereby ending the dream of many legal immigrants and shutting the books on the most open and free country in the world. The United States government has always had immigration issues. Medicaid expenses for illegal immigrants cost taxpayers millions of dollars each and every year. Welfare benefits also create the same issues that Medicaid does for taxpayers in the United States. Policies need to be changed so that the birth of children in the United States to illegal immigrants can be stopped. The United States needs to take a deeper look into amnesty and ask themselves if this is truly the right answer for the illegal immigration problem at this time.
