In the TEDx talk “An Exploration of Coming of Age Rituals & Rites of Passage in a Modern Era” by Ron Fritz, the short story “If I had the wings of an angel” by Judith Gorog, and my personal experiences it shows coming of age by leaving parents/ becoming independent, and make important decisions. In my personal experience, I have come of age by growing up and leaving my parents behind. A time that I coming of age was when I was about 12 when my parents sent me to my grandparents. My parents could not go to so I had to travel on my own with my 9-year-old brother and I had to make decisions that I normally don’t make on my own like with to eat or seating. This shows that I have come of age by the fact that I have left my parents and started to make a decision. Also, it proves that I can be without parental figures and that I can make decisions, and that I can take care of not only myself but others as well. This shows that I can grow up and leave my parents behind and The first part is that the charter is working very very hard to achieve something that they want. “He pushed Chickie hard on test--timed, multiple-choice--pages and pages of them. After a while, Chickie got so that he no longer feared the test.”(101). This shows that Chickie is work hard and cares about his future. And is try leave behind his mother and go to school but he needs to prove that he is good and can be independent. “The school interview lasted longer that Chickie had expected. They liked him and offered ham a scholarship and a summer-camp job.”(103). This shows that Chickie can work hard and can get to what he wanted. And that he does not need his mother or anyone else, and that you can start from the bottom and get to the top.
