The Oregon Trail is a 2000 mile long wagon route and emigrant trail made by fur trappers and traders from 1811 to 1840. The trail was then only possible on foot or horseback. By 1863, the trail was cleared from Independence, Missouri, to Fort Hall, Idaho. The trail later kept being cleared until Willamette Valley, Oregon. Improved roads, cutouts, and bridges made the trip faster and safer every year. The Oregon Trail had three offshoots: the California, Bozeman, and Mormon trails. The eastern half of the trail spanned future Idaho and Oregon. The western half of the trail spanned part of future Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Modern highways pass through the same course as the Oregon Trail. It was sometimes called “The Highway of Hope”.
Winning isn’t always a piece of cake, sometimes it takes more than what one’s expected to do. People have to work very hard to achieve that goal. Abraham Okimasis is a man who thinks it would be a great idea to join a dog race. He has a wife, they will be celebrating their 21st anniversary. He is willing to do anything to win. Abraham shows a few signs of quitting throughout the excerpt but he doesn’t give up. In this excerpt, the author uses hyperbole and imagery to show how important it is for Okimasis to conquer the ride.

The Teton Wilderness borders the south end of Yellowstone, the western side of Washakie Wilderness, the eastern side of Grand Teton National Park, and the northern region of the Mt Leidy Highlands. This wilderness area spans for 584,708 acres and is located in the state of Wyoming. The Continental Divide runs straight through Teton Wilderness which constructs one of the most interesting hydrological features across the country. This feature is called Two Oceans Pass. The reason why this place is so amazing is because there is a place where water is actually covering the Continental Divide which allows fish to swim from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean drainages. This wilderness area is managed by the Forest Service, and it was declared a wilderness area by Congress in 1964.

Sitting on my bike at the starting of my first race, I never would have expected what obstacles were ahead of me, aside from seven miles of single track mountain bike trail. A trail ridden with huge tree roots and rocks bigger than my kitchen stove. Before the starting gun goes off I had already made my first mistake. My bike is at least ten pounds heavier than everyone else racing beginner class cross country. My bike was specifically designed for enduro races meaning It is equipt with a generous ammount of travel in the soft front suspension. This makes the bike extremely inefficiant for a long distance cross country race. I definitely did not retain an apt amount of sleep the night before due to the butterflies constantly burdening my stomach. I was racing on about 4 hours of sleep, a sausage and egg biscuit from mcdonalds, and the small ammount of caffine still in my system from my coffee. The taste of that coffeel remained in my mouth and upset my stomach for the duration of the race.
