Have you ever thought about who you were going to be or how you would become the person you saw yourself as? In adolescence development we go through stages in life that prepare us for our future. At times we may be confused as to where we are going or where we should be at a certain age, but every step we take leads us to where we are now. In moratorium identity it’s a stage where we typically explore different options from religion to cultural beliefs. In this identity crisis people are actively asking questions about life commitment and seeking answers. It makes sense to me now that identity crisis happens in order for us to figure out our true self. Before this class I had no idea having an identity crisis exited or was a normal stage in our lives. When I was younger I can now say that I definitely had an identity crisis in my religious beliefs and social experiences. I grew up in a catholic family where I was raised to believe in that religion and that religion only. When I got to around sixteen years old I started to question and doubt myself being catholic at all. I started to look more into it than just what my parents have taught me, but also started to look into different religions. I did believe and understand many aspects of the catholic community but I wasn’t quit sure if it was the right fit for me. Also, in my social experiences I had the same crisis not knowing exactly who I wanted to associate with. I had a group of friends that were all interested in working in the medical field when they got older. They would all do volunteer work at hospitals and try to get ahead for the future. I also had another group of friends who wanted to be teachers and they were getting ahead by doing lots of volunteer work as well. I was so confused as to what social group I wanted to be in because that I believed was going to define my future goals and career. Although I already knew and had an idea of what I wanted to do when I got older I was still unsure of my decision and it was difficult deciding that. Moratorium is just a step to in getting to know who we are and reaching our identity achievement stage. My experience with an identity crisis happened more than once, but that is ok. These crises can occur with different issues not just religious or social
