What is Artificial intelligence? Artificial intelligence It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines and or computer programs. It is directly related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are only biologically observable. Artificial intelligence started a little after WWII, several people individually started to work on intelligent machines. The English mathematician Alan Turing may have been one of the first, though this is not confirmed. He also may have been the first to decide that AI was best researched by programming computers rather than by building machines. By the late 1950s, there were numerous researchers on AI, and most of them were basing their work on programming computers
Two of the artificial intelligence algorithms we have discussed this semester are the genetic algorithm and the k-means clustering algorithm. The genetic algorithm which calls for a solutions attributes to evolve and keep evolving until the desired solution set has appeared. While the k-means clustering algorithm is a way of sorting data into groups or clusters data based on the data next to it. Crossover is the process of selecting solutions with the same attributes so that they may be passed down to the next solution or their “children”. The purpose of mutation is to preserve or introduce diversity and could allow the program to avoid crashing by preventing the population of solutions from becoming too like each other, thus slowing or even stopping
