Special Events at time of success Good morning ms shaw n fellow classmates today I will be talking about the importance of Ian Thorpe’s influence on popular CULTUIRE and how he influenced the future not only on a local scale but on national and international scale Ian Thorpe’s rise to fame first started when he grabbed the world’s attention when he won the 1998 world 400m freestyle title in Perth, becoming, at 15, the youngest world champion in history. At local and National level, when he was 12, competed in 13 events at a state carnival, and set all under-age NSW records in all of his races. Participation rates rose through the roof and swimming and other sporting events began to rise in popularity. This is mostly because people especially children wanted to be like for example like the Cathy Freemans the Ian Thorpe. The Australian heroes and it spread even parents where happy because it was physical activity they were outdoors. Some major events that happened during his fame include the Sydney Olympics which is said to be one of the best Olympics ever, other notable events like the euro was introduced as the formal currency in 1999 but was formally recognized by the European union in 2002. There was also not so greatly favorable events that include September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, The Bali bombing in 2002, Suddam Hussein was captured in December of 2003, as well as the Indian Ocean Earthquake that took the lives of around 230,000 people. Some National and local events include the mark of a hundred years of federation in 2001, The Death of Don Bradman, Australian forces where deployed to fight against the Taliban for supporting Al Qaeda.
