IBM and its CEO Samuel J. Palmisano and Louis V. Gerstner. Gates.

For my Key Skills lesson I have been asked to choose a person (living

or dead) who has achieved something special in their lifetime. This

achievement should be related to the computer and electrical goods

area.

Research Plan

The company and person I have chosen to analyse and retrieve

information about are IBM and its CEO Samuel J. Palmisano and Louis V.

Gerstner. Gates. I will use a number of methods to retrieve the

information. The first will be to use my knowledge of IBM, as it is an

every-day household name. The second will be to use a variety of

different media's such as Books, Magazines, People, Newspapers, TV and

the most important, the Internet. I have chosen to not only look at

the IBM Corporation, but to also research the founder of IBM and the

previous CEO's. I will cover information about when IBM was formed and

how, how well it has performed, the current products in today's world.

strive to lead in the creation, development and manufacture of the

industry's most advanced information technologies, including computer

systems, software, networking systems, storage devices and

microelectronics. IBM is a Multi-national company as it operates in

more than 100 countries worldwide with a work force of 300,000 highly

motivated employees.

History of IBM

IBM origin dates back to the pre 1900, which was then at the time

called Computing- Tabulating- Recording Company (C-T-R), which was

it is today, they have been around for over a Century. IBM where the

first to invent and offer the products to the public, such as Laser

Disks and Floppy Disk invented in 1968 onwards. These are now one of

the more commonly used computer components since they where invented.

They also helped land the first man on the Moon. Without the skills

and experience IBM had, this would not have been possible. This has

led to us learning a lot more about space than we ever knew before.

Not only have we benefited from the technology that IBM has provided

us but IBM has gained a lot too. They have gained revenue of over

$88.3 Billion which is a huge amount of money. Some of this money has

gone to funding research. The have also help the economy by providing

more than Three Hundred Thousand people across the world with work.
