For this movie assignment, I watched Crash directed by Paul Higgins in 2004. I chose this movie because I recently was in a car accident and thought it would be interesting to see how a crash relates to this course. Come to find out it made a very interesting point. That we all just walk past each other and don’t stop to recognize everyone around us. If we all stopped to look at the people we are impacting and how we are impacting them we may not do the things that could offend someone. There were many diversity issues in this movie and they weren’t all between blacks and whites which seems to be talked about the most. If a black man doesn’t feel accepted in a majority white company he won’t stand up against his boss for his team. I know that I go through the motions of life without thinking about how my actions will affect people I shop at the same store with or go to the same restaurant with. But after watching this movie I feel like I will think twice about it. I don’t want my slight purse adjustment to be seen as a fear of someone around me, or a nudge for my child to come closer to seem that I am fearful for them. I want to move through life without offending someone with my slight actions. I know that isn’t always possible so I would rather be aware of my slight actions. From “Crash,” I have learned that sometimes your subconscious is what makes you in some ways discriminate. I have thought about this and hope that this class and knowledge of other cultures will allow me to think over my subconscious. This movie definitely shook me up a bit. I feel like after seeing this movie my subconscious will be able to see all people as equal and not be quick to judge. I plan to think more about the slight actions I am making, especially during this holiday season, in hopes to not offend anyone by
