I Was a Teenage Student
I may be in the minority, or, more sadly, the majority, but I have never seen anything horribly wrong with my schooling. This may be because I have attended private schools for most of my life, and only attended a public, state-run institution for three years, or it may be because the effect Jonathan Kozol talks about in The Night Is Dark and I Am Far from Home has been so subtle that I do not notice it. I do have some criticisms of my schooling, however.
When I think of my education as a whole, I think of it divided in to two parts, private and public. As I said before, I have spent most of my life--pre-school through the eighth grade--attending private schools.
In pre-school through the lower grades we were taught the basics--writing and spelling--along with some more important lessons some people take for granted. We were taught to share, to clean up after ourselves, and to be nice to other children. Of course, we took those lessons on Authority, no child in my class objected--they seemed like good ideas to us. Pre-school, I believe, is a good place to teach children the most important lessons, but I do not think enough is done in the early days of children's education to teach them compassion for their fellow human beings. I do not think that that is too young an age to show them the injustice, and the ugly things in this society that they are going to grow up in. I agree with Kozol's attitude towards teachers who say that we should not "bring in... rage and pain" into our children's lives at such a young age. Indeed, "what shall we do when rage walks in the door?"
The next stage of my education I seem to remember is middle school. I went to a private middle school affiliated with the Uni...

...he benefit of wiser parental figures. I often think about the other, disadvantaged kids I went to school with. I think about what they are doing with there lives. I try not to, though, it always makes me a little depressed to think about where our nation is headed. How can the future be bright when the public education system for the majority of children in this country is so dismal? No, this was not the Utopian high school the court had envisioned when they put together this school district.
So I guess I am happy, for the mostpart, with my schooling up until this point. There are some things I would improve upon, but looking at how others went through their education, I become more grateful of mine. I think of myself as a good person, whether I am correct in thinking that, or not. I do not know, however, whether that is because of my education, or in spite of it.
Throughout this term I learned so much about young children, anti-bias education, developmental growth and so much more. Education is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly; these are development steps of a young child that could help determine their future. Children need to be guided emotionally, academically, mentally and emotionally. Parents teach their children practices and their beliefs to help the child get ready for the world. Parents and teacher should always be involved in a child's learning process, despite of their values or beliefs. Everyone cultures are different, and how they expect their children to behave is different too. As adults, and teachers, we can’t have a set mindset on what we only believe in because, there is always
Personal Thoughts- Education is a life-long endeavor. Education isn’t restricted to a classroom or confided by the time restraints of the bell. Education can, and does happen anytime and anywhere. Students who attend public schools are certainly becoming well-schooled, but are they becoming well-educated? For example, take politics. There have been numerous presidential administrations packed with people that have college degrees make foolish mistakes. Were they well-schooled or
Most people go to public schools. They never read about other schools or what they offer. Why do we chose public schools anyway? Most Parents know they just want to have a child that can live how they did and learn where they have. Parents have been around and they wanted their child to be what was expect of them, going to school, get good grades and find a great college. Later on in the child’s life they would be happy but it all starts with the question what kind of school should they start. Most parents ignore the fact that there are charter schools which are close to public schools. The few things that are different is the services that public schools provide also the grades of the students last the teaching requirement in the schools.
The public schools looked towards the public sphere for inspiration and trained students to be productive in the world and focused on their academics. On the other hand, the private schools tended to celebrate a life of leisure in the private setting. However, in public and private schools, music, French, arithmetic, writing and reading were the core subjects. Greater emphasis was put on domestic subjects and lessons were only taught to the point of being satisfactory in a social setting (Pederson 138, 144).
What we need to be taught is respect. Respect is major idea that needs to be carefully grown and cared for in children. If a child doesn’t have respect for people then they will not be able to get a job, and if they do, they won’t respect what they have and will lose it. If they don’t have respect for school then they are sure to drop out because they feel they can do without, not knowing the benefits of teaching and learning. If we don’t show our children respect, then generations to come will lose respect for things that which we hold dear. That’s why our children need to know respect is important.
While I did not choose to apply to private schools, I feel that it was because of my well-roundedness in my high
(1) The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning, or CSEFEL, is a training model designed to provide teachers with curricula and skills to promote social-emotional learning in their preschool classrooms in order to prevent challenging behaviors (CSEFEL, n.d.). I interviewed Dr. Mary Louise Hemmeter, who is the principle investigator at CSEFEL at Vanderbilt University. This center works with child care programs, preschools, and Head Start programs to prepare children for the transition into kindergarten, where self-regulatory and social-emotional skills are necessary (Hemmeter, Ostrosky, & Fox, 2006). This program promotes social-emotional skills for all children in the classroom to prevent challenging behaviors, and
A childs mind is made of what it is taught starting at a small age. Of course, a child should know right from wrong. Touching a hot stove will burn them as they know.
Public schools are still the most popular way to educate a child. Depending on where a person lives and is zone for education a child could end up in a public school that is outstanding or a school that is failing in their academics. Being in a public school offers so much more than just academics. Going to a public school a

This article is about social-emotional learning and how it can potentially benefit kindergarten students. This study’s purpose was to consider kindergarten when promoting social and emotional learning in schools. Since relatively few studies have been conducted in the kindergarten classroom, this study examines the effects of the Strong Start curriculum for kindergarteners in this setting. This curriculum tests the competence of sixty-seven kindergarteners in both social and emotional areas. This curriculum consists of ten lessons that were taught by four different teachers in four different classrooms. In the end, the results indicate that students increase their social skills, and the curriculum decreases their natural instinct of internalizing behaviors.
I find self-satisfaction in successfully completing one course after another I achieved a GPA of 3.90 upon graduation. . My academic experience has taught me to manage my time between my job, my family, and my academic quest. I am a well-organized person, and I take my goals seriously
Many people in today’s society believe it’s wise to send their children to private schools. In making the decision on whether to put children in public or private schools, they look to four main factors: curriculum, class size, the graduation rate, and cost. When people have to pay for something, their first thought is, “Will I be getting what I’m paying for?” With a private school education, the amount you have to pay is usually well worth it. Public schools offer diversity. Here students can find people who are just like them and can associate better. Wherever you live, you have to send your child to the closest school. There’s no choice on what public school you can send your child to, whereas for private schools you can pick to send your child there. It’s not an easy choice for parents to decide, but many factors point toward a guarantee that a good education would be achieved, which is most important.
Children learn social interactions and many other elementary skills before the person has completely matured. Trying to teach an adult these skills will prove to be less effective than teaching a child. In youth, these teachings will be instilled in the child as morals, which the child will most likely apply to their daily live, even as adults. Trying to teach an adult character and social skills after they have gone their whole lives without developing these fundamental skills would make the adult see them as unnecessary. The adult would most likely not apply the teachings, while a child would live by them; therefore, character building and social interaction should be experienced at a young age. According to many educators especially language teachers, “kids brains have more elasticity than those of adu...
There are many decisions for parents to choose private or public school for their kids. Every parent wants what is best for his or her child. A person's education is one of the most important aspects in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. Education is so important. We need to look at both public and private schools to find out if there is a difference. Private schools are a better choice than public school for many reasons. Private encourages strong quality teaching, encourages higher education learning, and inhibit the rampant of bullying.
