I Want to Pursuit a Profession in Radiology

The potential profession I am going to pursue is Radiology. Radiology deals with taking x-rays of the body and diagnosing what you find wrong. How the radiology unit works is getting a patient and having the radiologist technician take images of the body by using machines. Different types of machines such as, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography (PET), identify all the images being taken of the human body (Phillip Costello, 2014). After the images have been taken they are sent to the radiologist to be interpreted. After being interpreted the patient is then told their diagnoses. Each of these steps involves writing in a certain form. Writing is a form of communication in the radiology unit so it must be specific and clear for someone else to interpret.
In the radiology profession first you must write the patient’s file. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the required x-ray is for and where it is going to be taken on the body. Writing in this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You must do research on the patients and there history and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate so the patient can be helped as much as possible. If the information about medical history is incorrect it can cause a huge problem for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic they would need to get an open room x-ray where the patient isn’t in an enclosed tube so they don’t have a panic attack and potentially injure themselves and others. It is very important to make sure the report has the correct area of where the x-ray needs to be taken. Having the wrong part of the body x-...

...ting legibly is the biggest concern. Having legible writing makes the whole operation of the radiology unit flow together. If the writing isn’t legible then it could cause the whole process to stop. Having the process stop isn’t good. It causes the process to be slower and risking peoples lives. For example, the x-rays can show blood flow. Having a very quick process could save someone’s life if they were bleeding out and needed a fast x-ray of where the bleeding was coming from and how it could be stopped. Having the writing be very clear and legible lives can be saved and make he process easy for the technician, radiologist, and physician.
