There are actually five careers that I am interested in. One of them is a writer, a baker, maybe a general manager, another option is a psychiatrist, and the last one a social worker. A writer because I love to write, even though I’m not good at it, it doesn’t stop me. A baker because I like baking, mainly baking cakes is what I’m good at. A general manager because I’m somewhat an organized person and I like to make sure that things are done accordingly. A psychologist because I think that I can relate to people who have problems that others might not seem to understand. And last a social worker because apparently some test that I took said that I would be good at it.

To become a baker you need to have experience as being an apprentice in a bakery. Going to community college or a culinary school can help you broaden you knowledge in baking, such as finding out about ingredients, and knowing what techniques to use. Taking a class in basic nutrition can help when it comes to certain things that people have problems with, especially allergies. There are various positions in the business world, but the one that caught my eye was the general manager position. A general manager or vice president (there are various names) is the right hand man (or in my case woman) to the president. They pay attention to detail and make sure that everything goes accordingly to plan and that is goes smoothly. When it comes to education you should of course have a business course and have experience; preferably doing an internship. Having an MBA could help you if you want a high position. An average income is $96,000 but also depending where you work at. Being a psychiatrist is something that I’ve also been thinking about lately. Why? Focusing on pursuing a career you like is important because statistics show fifty-two percent of Americans are unhappy going to work every day because they chose a career they didn’t have an interest in. My ideal job is in the medical field because I’ve always had a passion in helping people. I want to specialize in nurse anesthesia because of the important role they have in society. Nurse anesthesia interests me because of the tasks they do, the advanced education path they must take, and the history behind the profession.
Choosing a career path was not easy. I wanted to be able to do so many task that did not fit into certain criteria. My main goal in life is to be able to help those that need support. Getting a psychology degree was a leverage because I could get my degree in this field and use it to help others out. I wanted to be a psychodynamic therapist when I started classes, but after finding out there are more career paths available, I decided to enter the work force of being a victim advocate.
There are a few reasons why people select a certain profession. One possibility in choosing a particular career based on a personal experience, personal values, or significant relationships with people. These factors play an influential role when guiding one to decide what profession will best fit him or her. For instance, one who has dealt with a rare disorder such as Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare condition that weakens the and affects the nervous system, may desire to be a doctor or a physical therapist and provide assistance for those with rare disorders. Regarding social work, there have been factors which guided me into choosing this field as my future profession.
Growing up I struggled with the constant question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” With so many different career paths to choose from, it’s hard to become overwhelmed. As college gradually tiptoed in on me, I began to feel like I would never find the profession right for me. The few things that I did know I wanted in my future career were very simple to me. They were a job in the healthcare world where I could go home each night knowing I made a difference in someone’s life. A job that wasn’t just following a routine everyday but required creativity and brought new challenges while working with a diverse population.
Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. Your career shapes a huge portion of your life. It is what you do every day, for a large portion of your life. It is what I have prepared for the past 12 or so years of my life. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.
I have always wanted to help people. This career will help me to do just that and also make me happy about what I am doing. I once had a person tell me. “Don’t be afraid to lend a helping hand”. I was identified as a Guardian by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II. A guardian is a person that can have a lot of fun with friends, but they are quite serious about their duties and responsibilities (Keirsey.) The Multiple Intelligence Inventory listed my strong points as being naturalistic, body/kinesthetic, mathematics, and music (Multiple.) Although these skills ranged close to one another, they will definitely help me to become successful in the career that I have decided to pursue.
We have all had that fateful question thrust upon us at some point in our life- “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Few realize the true magnitude of that question at such an early age. Truly, the reason for that is due to the fact that no one, at this point in life, interprets the question for what it truly means. “What do you want to learn in college? What path will you choose? What do you want to become and spend forty years, more or less, doing with your life?” Needless to say, it is anything but a minor decision. Picking a career is one of the most important choices an individual can make in life. It is extremely difficult to find a profession that provides a substantial source of income and satisfaction at the same time. Thus, my answer to that age-old question has been up for debate in my mind for a long time. Although the debate is ongoing, I have narrowed the field of choices somewhat. The careers that I am interested in are three very contrasting careers: A physical/occupational therapist, a multimedia artist/animator, and a college theology professor.
I chose to go into the field of Social Work. The reason being I felt that I was good at helping others. I am helpful by nature and I tend to attract those looking to be helped. I believe my career choice is appropriate for me because I do fill enjoyment when I help others. It is something that I get tired of at times but the end result always lifts my spirits. I have been in the helping field for 20 years and I can’t think of any other career that would work best for me.
My ultimate value is my family. My vision for my own self is to live happily with my family in the future. I love to spend my spare time with them. Hanging around with friends and family make me feel well. I love to play on computer. I also love to play with the magical numbers. I like surfing on the internet, exploring new things, reading articles related with health, life, and economic events such as the stock market, financial companies, investment corporations, etc. I think being a citizen of a country, we should somewhat at different aspects of life to better know how well or bad the economy of our country is experiencing. My goal is to become a businessperson. I believe doing business is an important way to improve the economy of a nation. I did a research on two different careers. However, they are sort of having a relation with each other. Both of them are in the business field – accounting and financial analyzing.
My interest persisted and grew as I began to see how my efforts had the ability to improve the lives of people around me. I first noticed this on a personal level as friends would come to me for advice or for me to listen to their struggles and provide comfort. No matter how mundane, horrific, unique, or common the story was, I listened to them in a genuine and non-judgmental manner. I truly enjoyed hearing people’s stories and providing comfort and advice when needed. These moments helped me realize the power of simply being there for someone, and it increased my interest of pursuing a career where I can support those who need it most. I want to become a social worker so I can provide direction to those who may not be able to get it from other sources, just like I have done for various people throughout my life.
The career of a social worker is not as attractive to many because it’s not a field where you can make a lot of money right away. I want to make good living once I enter the real world, but I also want to have a purpose in life. I have always loved to help people. I am a very nurturing person and have always been passionate about helping others. I want to be able to make a difference in my community and the lives of other people. I also want to be a social worker because I want a career where I can have some diversity. I do not want a job where I must be confined to a desk to perform my job daily. Reflecting back on my childhood, I always had a vivid imagination. I would imagine being a doctor, lawyer, or even the first female president of the United States of America. But, I never considered a career in social work. Over the years I realized that I like helping people, but my thoughts of what I wanted to be were indifferent. In high school my counselor had me do a career survey to see what may have interest me. The most common choices were Nursing, Teaching, or becoming a Social Worker. Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology.
