I am Sierra Rettenmund and I currently attend Clyde High School. I plan to attend Ohio State University next year to work towards receiving my bachelors degree in dance. I hope to one day perform as a professional dancer and eventually own my own dance studio. In order to be able to run my studio with ease I, along with the instructors I hire, will need to be good leaders. A leader, by definition, is the person who leads or commands a group. There are many qualities or characteristics that play a role in good leadership. If were to fail at portraying these characters I would inevitably fail with running my business.
Many people have different views in what a good leader should do or how they should act. No single person is wrong since this is an opinion based

Humility is when someone has a modest or low view of their own importance. Humility is being humble. If you meet one of your heroes and feel nervous or in awe for them, you are experiencing humility. This is serving your people rather than insisting they work for you. Someone who spends his life taking care of others shows humility. There is a quote that says “Humility is the mother of all virtues; purity, charity, and obedience. It is in being humble that our love becomes real, devoted and ardent” Being humble means accepting your limitations and making an effort to make the world a better place without wanting to take all the credit. For an individual to develop humility, they can not think they are too good for everything they do. If you develop the thought that you are better than everyone people will start to resent you and want to stay away. Obviously this is not a good thing if you want to be a leader. You also want to be an optimist to expand your humility, people who practice humility are naturally optimistic because they don’t waste their time complaining about all of the bad things that have happened to them or dreading the
We live in an era of communication challenges. It is an age of increasingly scarce management and education to the markets of tomorrow. To solve this problem, to improve and restore the competitive edge of business, I recommend teaching leadership as well as organization. We need to move beyond the simplistic and boring, everyday organizational skills commonly taught in core courses in business schools. Important as these skills are, we need to redirect our foci towards the essential ingredient required to put these skills to work – leadership. As Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus have expressed it, “The problem with many organizations…is that they tend to be over managed and under led. There is a profound difference between management and leadership, and both are important.” “To manage” means “to bring about, to accomplish, to have charge or responsibility for, to conduct.” “Leading” is “influencing, guiding in direction, course, action, opinion.” Other characteristics include: motivating and inspiring individuals, providing direction and vision, earning the respect of others, turning talent and efforts into results, and being an excellent communicator and listener.
Leadership transforms potential into reality. Leadership acts as the catalyst that makes all other elements work together; without leadership, all other business resources lie dormant. Savvy business leaders are in tune with the needs and issues of their subordinates, and keep up to date on new developments in leadership theory and methodology to maximize their effectiveness.
The second is that humility is willing. If humility is not a choice, it's humiliation. Finally, the author says that humility is social, not a private act of self depreciation. It's about redirecting your powers for the sake of others (Dickson, 25). Dickson sets about proving his thesis statement by refining it, and suggested that humility, rightly understood, has often marked the most influential and inspiring people in history's. He personifies humility in our minds by using the lives, words, and acts of history's most prolific religious leaders, like Gandhi, scholars, like Martin Hegelur and Professor Richard Bauckham athletes, such as boxing legend, Joe Louis, and Argentine soccer great, Diego Maradona, social activists, like philosophers, like Aristotle, musicians, that included the rock band, U2. He used his encounter with a group of indigenous aboriginal musicians to explain what he calls, forced humilitas. The author goes on by illustration of the fact that humility is logical, beautiful, and beneficial for life, love, and leadership. Humility is logical because it is common sense. He reminds us of the sensibility of our admitting that what we know weighs so little against what
Northouse (2016) offers a Skills Inventory Questionnaire to assess which skills and traits leaders exhibit strengths and weaknesses in. This questionnaire determined I have the most strength in technical skills with a score of 28. This did not come as a surprise to me as I have implemented many technological advances since beginning at my agency 6 years ago and am consistently called upon to solve technological crises. Northouse mentions that leaders with high technological skills are seen as more credible and can offer innovative solutions to problems which I have experienced in my career (2016). In human skills, I scored a 26 which indicates that I am a “people person” (Northouse, 2016). I have always tried to maintain great relationships with my coworkers and colleagues. Although I agree that human skills are
. A job well done is the goal of every Coast Guardsman. We seldom agree on how that goal is best achieved and we have different levels of motivation for achieving the goal in a given timeframe but we all still feel good when we get there. A good leader knows that he must work with the tools he has. The tools in this case being the personnel he is leading. Every unit is different and every unit is staffed with a unique crew of individuals which all have their own strengths and weaknesses, skills and personalities. A good leader will quickly recognize the self starters and those who require more direction; those who work well alone and those who work best in a team. A good leader also understands that everyone has value and its okay if some have more value than others. Nothing in life is fair and some members are going to work harder than others. Unfortunately, in my career, I have had more poor leaders than good
A multitude of research has been conducted over the years as to the validity of the assumption that leadership does make a difference in the performance of an organization. While performing this same research an opinion was also formed on the contrary, that leadership does not make a difference.
Every human being of this world values a set of virtues. One of these virtues is humility, which is a modest or low view of one’s own importance, not believing one person is better than another. To develop the virtue of humility, a person must be open minded to the world around him, put others before himself, and be aware of his actions in order to better himself.
Leadership is a broad term with a powerful and diverse meaning. Found in every profession, school setting, and workplace, proves its vital and valued role. Working in the future as a health care professional evokes a strong sense of understanding to provide effective leadership. Interdisciplinary health teams more than ever compromise a large sector of health care, requiring the upmost standards of quality in leadership to assume these positions of power. From this course I set for myself a great responsibility to learn, grow, and build upon my skills in becoming an appreciated, and essential part when in the role or position of a leader. In addition I want to learn how to be comfortable in a leadership position, as it is often rarely proclaimed in today’s society. Breaking down what being a leader truly means, instead of an unattainable picture of world change, is
Before I start on the importance of Humility, I want to start with its definition “Humility is the noble choice to forgo your status, deploy your resources or use your influence for the good of others before yourself” In this book it talks about the importance of humility in leadership and life. I will be discussing what humility means and how to achieve it, and its importance to leadership.
Humility is a human characteristic, where one realizes their own insignificance in comparison to other people or circumstances. In a spiritual aspect, humility means putting God and others ahead of our own selfish interests.
What Exactly Is Leadership Coaching? In the broadest sense, whenever you are working with someone acting in a coaching or mentoring capacity in an ongoing relationship to; raise your awareness, grow as a human being, develop your leadership skills and effectiveness, work through some of the common challenges managers and leaders face, close gaps between where you are now and where you want to be, translate goals into specific actions, change behavior, increase the impact you are having, and generally get better results - you could be considered to be engaged in some form of leadership coaching. Who Seeks Coaching Most clients that come to leadership coaching tend to be proactive and take their growth and development seriously. They are typically open-minded, high performers who are used to seeking out the best support and training available.
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
Leadership is one of the most important facets in organizations. In most cases, leaders act with respect to organizational culture as well as the codes of conduct that determine the manner in which leaders relate with subordinates. Leadership entails the use of effective communication skills to get activities done in the workplace and to ensure that employees shelve their individual interests for the sake of their organizations’ shared targets. It is the role of leaders to ensure that consumers attain high quality products and services by making certain that members of their firms’ workforce are fully motivated to work effectively and utilize resources in an efficient manner (Bass, 22). With the increasingly sophisticated nature of the corporate world, leadership should not be based solely on the desire to control and coordinate affairs within the workplace, but leaders should also exhibit positive examples and continually monitor the changing trends in corporate governance to initiate the most relevant guidelines. Competitiveness can only be attained when leaders are in a position to set the right standards in their firms and coordinate affairs appropriately by understanding consumer and employee needs.
A society with the absence of leadership will lead to chaos. Recently, the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died and this has caused his followers to be in disarray. Currently in Palestine the followers are trying to ameliorate life and figure who will replace Arafat. For when there is an absence of leadership it causes followers to panic. The panic of the people leads to the confusion of their everyday life. Leadership implies that a person must posses certain qualities. There are many traits that must be shown to be a good leader. If a leader is noncommittal and callow then a society will fail. However when trying to restore order in a society one person may try to accomplish it by themselves but this rarely works. When working alone or in a small group, three things can happen and lead to more disarray. These things are isolation, too much authority, and control.
Education is a very important aspect in the life of a child. The level of success a student has in the classroom is greatly influenced by their teachers. Students, as well as their parents, depend on the teachers to guide them through their education. But who guides a teacher to perform successfully in the classroom? Principals and teachers play an important role in schools. A good relationship among school leaders and teachers is necessary and play an important role in making improvements in the school. Leadership refers to the “process in which one person successfully exerts influence over others to reach desired objectives”. (Okoji, 2015) Good leadership involves honesty, vision, confidence and commitment. It is the ability to inspire a
