“I am Beto” of Anh Nguyen is a book written for both adults and children. Anh Nguyen is a Vietnamese well-known author for writing books for children and teenagers. “I am Beto” is one of his successful works, and this is the first time he has written a book through a dog’s narrative. The author borrowed the narrative voice of a dog to tell us stories of colorful life. There, you will find yourself in familiar and simple situations, sometimes you encounter childhood moments that you have experienced. By writing a skillful story, the author has made us laugh a few times because of the guts of Beto, and sometimes quietly thinking about the thought of a puppy about life. Seeing how Anh Nguyen chose and broadened the relationships and behavior of Beto to others around him, we can imagine our faces at this age. Beto is a little black and naughty dog while Bino, his best friend, is a little white and nice dog. They are different, but their friendship is a strange harmony. It is naive, sincere, unselfish and "clear" like black and white. Reading “I am Beto”, you will recognize a nasty Beto like slippers, clothes… or Beto with naïve thinking. Then you will laugh when imagining Beto’s cool face when he and Bino sneak down to hear the rain falling on the rooftop. Anh Nguyen did a good job on creating characters, using “dog” language to tell stories, and sending meaningful messages to reader. However, he wasn’t successful to connect 102 stories together. They are almost impossible to harmonize. In short, “I am Beto” is a good choice for everyone. Reading “I am Beto” to find yourself. Read alone, laugh, and then shed tears again. So when you fold the book, you live a little slowly, and do not miss any meaningful moments of life granted.
