How would your life be different if teachers never existed? Do you think you would be where you are today if it wasn’t for the assistance of teachers? I believe that teachers play the most important role in education. Without teachers, schools wouldn’t exist, children wouldn’t become educated, and many people wouldn’t be able to succeed in life. Teachers are the people that mold children’s minds and the future generations. One might think that since teachers play such a pivotal part of a person’s life, they should be paid a decent amount of money. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many teachers. A teacher’s salary is a social injustice that I consider extremely urgent because I believe that teachers do not get paid enough for all the hard work that they do. Ever since I was younger I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. This was the very beginning of this project. It wasn’t until 2011, that this project started to go into full force in California. Nínive Calegari, who was the founder of The Teacher Salary Project, produced the film, American Teacher, in 2011. This film follows the lives of four teachers and explains the issues in the American educational system. Throughout the film, there are many interviews with these teachers and startling statistics about teacher’s salaries and their financial burden.
