One of the biggest reasons besides the increasing millage that the batteries can power the car for is, government incentives that are being given out. Buying a electric car can actually be cheaper that a gasoline powered car right now with all of the incentives that drive down the price of these cars which makes them more affordable. Electric vehicles have many differences from a gasoline vehicle including motor, transmission, no exhaust pipe, no fuel lines, and no drive shaft. These vehicles have four main parts which include the controller, motor, batteries, and two potentiometers. The potentiometers (variable resistors) are hooked up to the gas pedal and tell the controller what position the pedal is in so that the controller can tell the motor what speed it should operate at.
Not only is the Volt a plug-in hybrid, but so are the Ford Fusion Energi, Toyota Prius, and Honda Accord. There are more hybrids than these. However, these are some examples. As battery technology improves, car batteries will get smaller. They will become more fuel efficient and less expensive.
However, some people say that electric cars still have environmental costs. The electricity used to recharge EV batteries has to come from somewhere in the world, and now, most electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. Although electric vehicles are classified as green cars, purists will not appreciate the toxicity of the batteries. Electric cars are becoming increasingly more necessary, and have more advantages than disadvantages. Electric cars help to decrease the noise, pollution as they are much quieter.
In my own personal opinion, hybrid cars are much more efficient than electric cars. On a scale they are half way between an electric car and a regular gas powered car. Although hybrid cars are a little more expensive to run than electric cars, they can travel approximately five times more in one refuel/recharge which compensates for the difference in price to recharge/refuel the cars. Furthermore, the regenerative breaking factor makes hybrid cars more convenient than all electric cars because when an electric car runs out of battery there is much more hassle to go through to get the car up and running again, in fact the car would have to be towed. Whereas when a hybrid car breaks down it is similar to a regular gas engine car in the sense that a can of emergency fuel can be carried, enough to take it to a petrol station.
The battery sends its energy to the electric motor, which then begins to turn. Finally, the power created from the motor is then transferred to the wheels. The batteries that the electric car uses would not last a long time and take a long period of time to recharge, this was the main problem. This was not suitable for consumers that drive often and travel far distances when traveling. While the batteries in electric cars do not last long, electric cars are better than gasoline cars, they do not need gasoline to operate and do not pollute the earths air, which saves money and time that would normally be spent in refueling.
The hybrid vehicle is the car to help the economy. It produces less emissions than an all gas/diesel. The only reason that it produces less emissions is because the gas is not on th... ... middle of paper ... ...orange case is high voltage. You have to be very careful when working on this. They have special tools when it comes to hybrids.
Fuel efficiency is greatly increased, while emissions are greatly decreased. HEVs can be operated using alternative fuels; therefore they need not be depended on fossil fuels (http://www.ott.doe.gov/hev/what.html#hev). Another great thing about these machines is the mpg; on the average, a hybrid car gets anywhere from 55-70mpg on the hwy. This is what makes the car all worth having. Now all this sounds good, but there are some issues that must be addressed.
Using both of these systems, gasoline powered and electric powered, will help decrease the pollution in the air. The reason more people have gasoline powered cars rather than electric powered cars is that people find having to “charge” your car an inconvenience when rather they can take five minutes to run to the gas station and fill up there tank. Using an electric car, the charging process takes a long inconvenient amount of time, and it can only go about 50 to 100 miles before converting into the gasoline powered engine. Although there are some negatives, there are also some positives about hybrid cars. Not only can they help the environment with the decrease of pollution, but they are also very small and don’t need fuel to run.
For gas vehicles, the driver is required to regularly re-fill the gas tank due to the fact that the car consumes more gas than an electric car consumes power over the same distance. Electric vehicles are designed with a focus on weight reduction and better aerodynamics (Dickerman & Harrison, 55). This leads to more mileage between recharges for owners of electric vehicles. This is highly cost effective as the driver can drive longer distance without the need to recharge as compared to gas vehicle drivers over equal distance. The ability to save on gas is another important difference to consider between the two types of vehicles.
Prius cars have many advantages but at the same time it has disadvantages. Costumers buy this cars to save gas money and more importantly keeps the environment healthy by reducing the amount of pollution from carbon dioxide emissions. Toyota Prius (2009) runs about 48mpg on freeway and 51mpg in the city. A 2014 Hybrid Prius normally cost between $24,000-$30,000. Some disadvantages is that the batteries do not last a long time.
