The story that my family often tells is our Hurricane Katrina experience. In 2005, my family and I had to leave our home in New Orleans, Louisiana to come to Texas. This is unfortunately a tragic but triumphant story of my family. On August 22, 2005, I had just begun middle school at a private school that I so badly wanted to attend. The very next day my mom and I was watching the news and the news reporter stated that there was a hurricane forming that looks as if it will head to the gulf coast. Because New Orleans had been spared by God the last two hurricanes, my mom stated that this one will be It. She predicted that New Orleans will be hit this time and the damage will be catastrophic. Boy, was she right! On Sunday August 28, my mom and I packed three backpacks of important items to head to the Super Dome with other evacuees. I was tired and hungry so I feel asleep on my mom’s lap. I woke up the next morning on August 29th at 7 a.m. and a woman who sat below my seat and I were talking about her recently deceased grandson. After five minutes of us talking we heard a sound that resembled a train. I slightly was excited because I had a weird obsession with natural disasters so to be able to experience one I was ready. The train sound started to get louder and suddenly holes started to form in the roof as if someone was poking it with a needle. Everyone started yelling that the roof was going to blow off so the national guards that were assigned to watch us guided us to the basement. While walking to the basement we passed a window and I looked outside to see things flying in the streets and heavy rain. This is when I realized that this is something more serious than a weather channel story. My family and I found our corner against one of the walls and we sat and talked until the storm
