Hunger and malnutrition are very serious issues in many different countries throughout the world. Hunger and malnutrition stem from one problem, the lack of sustainable agriculture. The United Nations has set forth a series of goals that aim to reduce the effects of hunger in the world. The first of these goals was Aba Grangou, which is a program that aims to end world hunger. The second of these goals has to do with the sheer volume of people that experience hunger, both adults and children. The United Nations has recognized the problems that come with the lack of food stability, and they have also come up with some programs that help to combat the lack of sustainable food sources. The dictionary definition of Malnutrition is “lack of proper nutrition; inadequate or unbalanced nutrition.” The prevalence of malnutrition in the world among children is “about 47 percent of children under five years of age are chronically malnourished.” There has recently been a decrease in the rate of children who are chronically malnourished, “Between 1994 and 2008, the prevalence of children who are malnourished declined from 35.2% to 27.2%.” These rates have decreased because of the multiple plans that the United Nations have made and executed in order to benefit the world hunger …show more content…

The first plan that they have created is the National Nutrition Action Plan 2012-2015, this plan “aims to reduce the prevalence of chronic malnutrition among children and to lower the proportion of the population consuming fewer than 2 300 kilocalories per day from 65 percent to 43 percent.” This plan is very beneficial to the aide of malnutrition in children and adults because it is a specific goal with numbers to reach, thus making the goal more attainable for the group as a whole. Another plan that the United Nations has made for the world hunger crisis focuses on the center of the entire problem, the world food crisis. The National Food Security Strategy “aims to reduce the prevalence of food insecurity by one-third by 2015; to make 90 percent of the population food-secure by 2020.” This can be done by creating sustainable agriculture in countries that are struggling with food
