Essay 1: Humanity has been at conflict since the beginning of its existence. Much of this chaos has been the result of tension from disagreements between religions. Unfortunately, the conflict does not end there, as there is also great tension from within religions, especially Christianity. As one witnesses all of this clashing of faith creating such turmoil within humanity, one begins to question the purpose of faith. Does faith really make a difference? Is there a way that through faith, we are related to one another and the environments we inhabit? These questions of faith and how it binds us as a community are essential. If we do not address these questions, humanity is bound to continue down this divided path of faith where differences in religion will draw us further apart. As Christians, we are all connected by a common faith, and by having a better understanding of scripture, we can be brought closer together. In his appeal, Walker is calling together all colored people in opposition of enslavement. He unifies these people, stating that as humanity, we are one. Walker proposes to all Americans “Is He not their Master as well as ours? What right then, have we obey and call any other Master, but Himself?” (Walker). With this statement, walker is not only attempting to band together the colored people of America, but their white masters as well.
