In America, slavery is considered as an issue that had been solved in the past. However, most people don’t know that slavery actually still exists. Especially in Southern Africa, this region is known as the destination of human trafficking. Young African girls are kidnapped within their own country for sexual use and domestic servitude. Meanwhile, young African boys are trafficked for street vending, agriculture, and food service purposes. Today, there are many non-profit organizations that are attempting to prosecute, prevent, and protect children from human trafficking organizations. However, these human trafficking organizations have gotten so big that most governments in the Southern African region is not making

On the other hand, some traffickers kidnap children violently and maintain control of them by using drugs. In Southern Africa, a struggle to fight human trafficking exists because of poverty, female oppression, loose border patrol, gender inequality, child abuse, natural disaster, and any other factors that are causing African children to become instable with their lives. For example, HIV/AIDS outbreak is severe in Africa. Therefore, there have been many cases that children’s parents died in front of them and they feel like they don’t belong in the place they live in anymore. Then, traffickers persuade them by saying children can only escape loneliness by joining a work force community or an army

People who are trafficked have a reason to break laws that are unjust and made by the human trafficking organizations because their human rights are taken away; no one should be forcing them to work, fight, etc. In order to prevent the idea of human trafficking to spread even more across the world, trafficked people must act up to break the unjust law as soon as possible. Some people say that the issue of human trafficking is a myth and there is no reason for people to break laws that are considered unjust. According to an article, “Worldwide Human Trafficking is a Myth,” by Zbigniew Dumiensk, he claims that the number of victims is “alarming developments and that the authors of the preceding claims should be thanked and congratulated for bringing them so forcibly to public attention.” Meaning, the number of people trafficked are exaggerated in order to grab more attention from the audience. “In political terms, if something is not measured, it does not exist. If it is not counted, it does not count. (Duminesk)” The number might be fake, however, it is true that there are countless amount of people reported that they are trafficked. Whether there is only one person or thousands of people being trafficked, trafficking is the modern form of slavery and there is no reason to use ordinary human beings as items to make commercial exchange.
