Inhuman Activity: Human Organ Trafficking
When I filled out a document before taking the written test at DMV, there was an option to ask for organ donation. At first, it made me wonder how the organ donation process works, then I did some research and accidentally read some articles about illegal human organ trafficking. Human organ trafficking is a painful social problem which a group of people trade human organs illegally.
There has been a significant disparity between the demand and supply of human organs. Also, the number of donors are limited; yet many patients are waiting for receiving proper organs. In fact, one of the organ trafficking victims is the poor people. Kidney is the most selling organ that can be removed and does not kill the victims. With little amount of money from organ selling, the victims cannot pay off the entire debt. According to Ana (2008), one kidney only worths approximately $2,500 - $3,000, whereas it is sold to the patient around $100,000 - $200,000. Obviously, the money that the victims earned from organ selling is much less than the value being sold to the transplant patients. Regarding to health issue, because of the lack of support from the missing organs, the victims’ bodies will get worse over time which leads to serious illnesses that can cost them their jobs. These poor and unemployed people choose to commit many crimes such robbery, drug dealers, murder, etc. At the result, the act of organ trafficking keeps the poor remained in debt and encourages crime …show more content…

Because of high demand, beside the volunteer donors, people will look for other resources, such as kidnaping and killing innocent people. In other countries, a patient needs to book a transplant organ whom has to wait for months or years to have a proper and the best fit organs with their body, but it only takes for few days in China. For example, there is a particular case of Rourou Zhuang, she travelled to China for a kidney transplant, after the operation succeeded, she has found out that the organ she just received came from person who had been killed. She said : “I was totally shocked to find out about the source, I also feel very sad I participated in that. So I thought I should tell my story to let the public know.” Some reports state that the number of homeless people found dead with missing organs is accountable for this murder criminal. As a matter of fact, this story terrifies people about kidnapping issue. People are more worried than ever before when they leave their house. Children and teenagers who are incapable to resist are the most vulnerable victim of organ trafficking. Kidnappers target the children on their way home from school.
