Introduction
Human-like postures and motions of domestic humanoid robots can make a human-robot interaction safer because the robot’s movements are more predictable for the human. Therefore the human is able to keep the right distance to the robot and the risk of the robot causing harm to the human decreases. Additionally, a humanoid robot having human-like postures during his tasks might look more familiar, especially for elderly people, which are likely to lack experiences with new technologies like robots. Therefore a humanoid robot with human-like postures and motions might be accepted more likely.
A method that is used to generate human-like postures and motions with a humanoid robot is imitation, which uses motion capture techniques …show more content…

Contribution of the Work

Evaluating the human-likeness of a robot’s posture or motion usually requires a human solving the same task to compare how similar both solutions are. Additionally, in the majority of cases, special equipment is needed to generate data of the human solving the task, in order to be able to even compare the solutions.
Nowadays neural networks are often used to control the robot’s actuators to solve a specific task, where the robot manipulates his environment, for example grasping an object and interact with it or move it to another place in the environment.
A human-likeness evaluation, which only needs data that is already provided by a robot for the evaluation, does not only save resources, it also can be used to determine differences between different training strategies of neural networks regarding human-likeness. If training strategies are known to produce more human-like solutions, the additional knowledge can help to make a more informed decision on the training strategy used to train future tasks where human-like solutions are
