“The world was stunned today by the death of Diego Ricardo, the youngest person on the planet, the youngest person on earth was 18 years, 4 months, 20 days, 16 hours, and 8 minutes old.” Imagine a situation where the world is left without children, what would it feel like? Human infertility is the inability to reproduce. Generally speaking, if everyone in the world is unable to reproduce, it will lead to human extinction. This may not seem like a realistic situation, but it could be a metaphor for the modern world.
The movie “Children of Men” directed by Alfonso Cuaron describes a world where two decades have gone by without human fertility which caused the human race to be extinct. Kee, the only pregnant women left on Earth, has asked a militant

As has been noted, Kee, being the only pregnant woman in the world, is the cure. She gave hope to the world. Scientists may have been able to use her to find a solution to human infertility. So in the movie, Theo must keep her safe and make sures she arrives at the sea safely with her baby. In the film, Kee is the cure for planet earth. If they don’t protect her and her baby, the world loses hope again and they go back to how everything was. This connects to the society because relating it in real life, Kee is the environment. If we don’t protect the environment, it is going to die off fast. People don’t care about the environment right now. The ground has so much garbage and junk and the air is getting very polluted daily. Additionally, nobody pays close attention to green bins and recycling bins and it is slowly damaging the earth. Nobody realizes that we have to take care of the environment for future generations. Hope is in future generations. If we do not have that, there is no point in life and everyone will act the same way, just like in the movie. The movie is using Kee to show us that when we realize that something is too late (taking care of the environment), everyone is going to freak out and be scared and react violently similarly to the movie. Given these points, the movie used Kee to send a message to protect and save the environment. In fact, there is one more thing that comes to mind in watching Children of men, and it is
In kilner’s case study “Having a baby the new-fashioned way”, present a story that can be relatable to a lot of families struggling to have a child. This is a dilemma that can be controversial and ethical in own sense. The couple that were discussed in the case study were Betty and Tom. Betty and Tom who are both in their early forties who have struggled to bear children. Dr. Ralph Linstra from Liberty University believes that “Fertility can be taken for granted”. Dr. Ralph talks about how many couples who are marriage may run into an issue of bearing a child and turn to “medical science” to fix the issue. He discusses that “God is author of life and he can open and close the womb”. That in it’s self presents how powerful God.
Reproducing is a decision that is irreversible and produces masses of major responsibilities and changes. However large the decision may be, there are many women who decide that they are ready too late in their lives. The delay in becoming pregnant may occur for a variety of reasons, many of which include financial or career stability, mental stability, or pregnancy through outside means, such as in vitro fertilization. Women are expected a stop in the ability to become impregnated with the arrival of menopause. In the book State of Wonder, by Ann Patchett, a woman named Marina Singh travels deep inside the Amazon jungle in the hopes to find Dr. Annick Swenson, a doctor who is developing a drug for pregnancy in post-menopausal women. Dr. Swenson herself has become the first non-native test subject. Marina struggles with the ethical and moral aspects of the activities that are being done on the native cultures. She soon learns that although there are cultural practices that may lead to optimistic advances into post-menopausal pregnancies, there may be no use bringing them back into modern society. Women should not be allowed to reproduce when they have passed natural menopause and the stop in ovulation.
We are all different. We are all at least biased on one topic. Some people just look at the surface, while others dig deeper into the facts that were given. Reginald Rose demonstrated these points beautifully in 12 Angry Men. All of the Jurors bring a special part of their personality to the jury room, which is the beauty of having a jury. All of the jurors are different in their own unique way,
How can you be a man to your family when you are poor and black? Killer of Sheep poses this question over and over again, and the tension between masculinity, blackness and poverty is central to the movie. The film seems to provide Stan with several choices, all of which are directly related to his masculinity. He can accept the advances of the white woman, which offers him both a way out of a miserable job at the slaughterhouse and a boost to his “manliness” in the form of a tryst with a woman of a higher status. This is immediately unpalatable to him, a fact that is emphasized by the uncomfortable close-on of her hand rubbing his wrist and followed by her sideways smirk. Although he promises to think about her “warm proposition,” the movie never again explores this possibility. Alternately, he can buy the engine, which serves both as an assertion of masculinity and—as his friend notes—as a signifier of class. While he opts to try this, the entire plan is ill-fated; the scene where he picks up the engine contains some of the most imbalanced sequences in the entire movie, and the extreme and off-putting diagonal of the street effectively communicates
What’s so amazing about people is the little things push people to do dramatic and outrageous things, without actually thinking about the effect of their actions, most people seem to continue to make radical decisions. The most reoccurring thing that ticks people off is the controversial decision to separate or judge someone based on what racial background they come from, this has been a huge issue for what seem like forever and honestly what seems like an never ending issue for people around the world no matter their race, sex, age, or financial background. In the film Children of Men, the entire plot is based on a pregnant immigrate whose baby is the key for a revolutionary revolt against the government. The government is the film based majority of their focus on immigration and sending people back to where they were from and taking out any terrorist that may eventually harm the well-being of people in the UK, the reason this is so relevant is because while everyone focus was immigration there was so much going on that could’ve prevented all of that from happening but because of the ignorance it just left the world even more separated than before. This film
In a world with abortion rights issues, the Zika Virus and a declining birth rate, countries are beginning to put the pressure on their citizens to procreate for the future of their nation, but is procreation the correct solution? The birth of a child causes significant changes for the lives involved around that birth, and creates new identities for all involved: mother, father, sister, aunt, grandmother, etc., killing what they used to know about themselves and being reborn as the birth of that child dictates. The cycle of death and rebirth, both for the child and by the child, make reoccurring appearances throughout the movies ' Up, Children of Men and UltraViolet. By analyzing a wide variety of movies that deal with the Child as the ultimate

People, British citizens and illegal immigrants alike, need to acquire hope for themselves in order to get the need to find peace in the world. In a comment stated by Conrad E Oswalt Jr while discussing Children of Men, he states, “The modern apocalypse has replaced a sovereign God with a sovereign humanity, and instead of providing hope for an eschatological kingdom, the cinematic apocalypse attempts to provide hope for this world” (Schwartzman). He says this describing the fact that mankind has taken over the essence of hope in apocalyptic settings, beating out the abilities of God. Oswalt believes that humans have the power to destroy and renew the world and have the influence to spread fear and hope too, and also stating that “The modern apocalypse has replaced a sovereign God with a sovereign humanity” (Schwartzman). This statement by Oswalt is most certainly a primary theme involving the power of human beings in this chaotic world. The learning of Kee’s baby gives people the idea of having hope. Many helpers that were along Kee’s side all risked their lives in hoping for a better future. Julian had lost her life to find Kee safety. Syd, a corrupt and greedy guard, had secretly snuck in Kee and Theo into a refugee camp. Miriam, Kee’s midwife, had fallen into British captivity in order to distract guards from discovering Kee’s baby. Even longtime friend of Theo, Jasper, had risked his life for Kee and paid the ultimate price. An old and decrepit drug dealer, Jasper had lived far away from civilization to keep himself away from the horrors and inhumane acts going on in town. When Theo and Kee arrive at his house and Kee reveals herself to him, Jasper immediately welcomes them with open arms and keeps them for the night. He proclaimed to Kee that, “Your baby is the miracle the whole world has been
In any culture, there is the perception of the pregnancy. Pregnancy is the real indication of the procreation to replace the old generation with the new ones since death is inevitable. But for some unavoidable reasons one may decide not to get pregnant and though she gets pregnant, she may choose not to give birth by carrying out abortion. Abortion has therefore been the most issue of concern globally, the main reason being it denies one’s life. Reasons for carrying out abortion or terminating the pregnancy are varied, and majority carry it for various reasons that many not be known to those not involved, but only the mother sometimes knows even the sire of the child may not be aware. Therefore, various methods have been implemented to create
In the film ‘Children of men’ directed by Alfonso Cuaron there are three scenes that show us that a sense of hope or despair was developed for a particular purpose, using different film techniques. The very first scene in the movie shows us a sense of despair as the setting of it is not a very happy one, as the youngest human on the planet has just been murdered. Half way through the movie there was a sense of hope was developed when Theo found out that Kee is pregnant which changes Theo’s view on the world. In the opening scene Cuaron uses a blank shot with voiceover to introduce a feeling of despair. The movie opens up with a blank screen with the commentator reading headlines like “after 8 years the british borders are still remained
In Children of Men, Cuarón portrays a world of imminent genetic erasure. Humankind has not seen a baby born for 18 years and at the same time, are mourning the recent death of the youngest person on Earth. According to Nanelle R. Barash and David R. Barash, dystopian science fiction share a them of "denial of biology"-a denial of human's basic needs. The prospect of genetic continuity is completely absent – a prospect that “is the motivation underlying sex, love, and indeed everything in the organic world”. Infertility, therefore, not only means the absence of children, but, worse, the absence of hope and sense of purpose. When we lose purpose, we simply give up
According to the cliché rhyme,“First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.” What happens, though, if the “baby in the baby carriage” never comes to fruition? Millions of couples struggle with infertility every year. Despite relentless effort and sometimes even therapy, many relationships become strained by the curse of sterility. Both partners in a childless (yet child-wanting) couple feel the tension of the struggle to become parents. One literature-based couple that struggles with infertility is Shakespeare’s Macbeths. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth yearn for a child and react to their unsuccessful attempts at becoming parents in psychologically understandable ways.
Due to the lack of decency and respect in this generation, society has become very dark. There is poor parenting taking place in this overpopulated world, and it is effecting all the future generations. Teenage parents, are uneducated and unprepared to be to raise a child. They believe they are responsible enough to take on the world and raise a family. Unfortunately, this is false information. Considering they are teenagers, they were unable to get their lives set up for success, and then they make the same parenting mistakes multiple times and end up with a huge family way below the poverty line. For every married couple, two children are all it takes to keep the world’s population at a constant rate. In too many families, there are more than two children, causing to exceed the death rate. In Overpopulation: Causes, Effects and Solutions, Rinkesh Kukreja
For centuries there had been one sex that dominated the development of society. Laws, religion and lifestyle all revolved around the idea that one sex, the male sex, was dominant. Oppressed and considered inferior, women would obey the men, forgo all rights and accept all responsibility. Only recently, with the emergence of the women’s liberation movement, have both sexes been considered equal. For the first time in human history, both sexes have been given the chance to fulfill their potentials without discrimination. Parents, despite preferences of having a girl, or a boy, have known that regardless, their child would have an equal opportunity at life. The cutting edge technology, however, means that all this could change. The ability of parents to actually select the gender of their child could have not only devastating effects on society, but on the lives of so many children and parents. Whether parents had a girl or a boy has always been left up to nature to decide. To date, no-one has dared interfere with the genetic workings of the body, mainly because the technology did not exist to do it. Now, with the dawn of the twenty-first century, that technology has arrived and mankind is faced with a very important decision: whether or not to “play God” and manipulate the gender of their child to suit their preferences. The romance of having the perfect nuclear family, with two boys and two girls’ fills the heads of young couples everywhere, and when given the opportunity, m...
