The world is sometimes a terrible place filled with disrespect, hurt, confusion, and pain. Huckleberry Finn knows a lot about these issues. He has had many struggles that are not only physical and environmental but he has struggled internally as well. His upbringing is tough and almost nonexistent as far as family goes. What might it be like to have to fake your own death to escape the abusiveness of your own father? Although Huck is a very young boy, who is very much alone he proves that he is capable of thinking for himself, is kind, caring, and concerned for the wellbeing of others; regardless of what other people think.
The main character of the story is Huckleberry Finn; he is called “Huck” for short by his friends, including Tom Sawyer. He is the narrator and the protagonist. Huck is caring, thoughtful and very clever, although he used to be rather uneducated. Huck is a young teenage boy and the son of an abusive alcoholic. In my final analysis of this story I must say that it is deserving of its place in history as a classic novel. I really liked Huckleberry Finn, and think that despite his upbringing and difficult life, he is just a young boy trying to make it through life with a sense of dignity and respect for self by doing what he thinks is right, even when others do not agree. He helps his friend Jim despite the internal struggle and he realizes that humans are worthy of respect regardless of the color of their skin. He goes against the grain of the outside world and thinks that society has their ideals a little messed up, it is kind of ironic coming from this often dirty, and homeless little boy, who had been “raised” by an alcoholic father, and racist fools. If only there were more people in the world such as Huckleberry Finn. (997 words)
