How to Become The Most Effective Educator
“The good teacher discovers the natural gifts of his pupils and liberates them by the stimulating influence of the inspiration that they can impart. The true leader makes his followers twice the men they were before”. This statement by Dr. Freeman (1998) summarizes the reason teachers become educators and how good educators must think. As teachers, our number one responsibility that holds precedence over all other principles is the ethical responsibility to the children. We are committed to supporting children’s development “by cherishing individual differences, by helping them learn to live and work cooperatively, and by promoting their self-esteem” (Jalongo, 2002). These early experiences define the child’s overall perceptions of their educational experiences.
The most effective teachers are enthusiastic learners who will welcome changes connected with new learning. In order to accomplish this and to become the most effective educator to their students, one must possess three important key elements: one must insure a reliable, dependable, good student-teacher relationship; one must secure and establish a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment to learn in; and, to hold and value essential absolute qualities necessary to become a well-rounded educator.
Student-teacher relationships are a key feature of school life. The samurai were élite warriors in Japan during the 1200’s to the early 1700’s. Fifth century Japan saw conflicts with Korea and China, but Japan had a very untrained army, with a clumsy Calvary, and poor infantry men (Blumberg 1). The reason was that horses were seen as a burden and were never bred to be strong, fast, and large for war purposes (Blumberg 2). In the 6th and 9th centuries, a series of rebellions in Japan began from the Emishi people of the northern home islands; these country people were very well-trained in mounted archery. The nimble Emishi would defeat the Japanese riders with ease (Blumberg 2). But during the war against the Emishi, Japan learned to breed horses for fighting, adapted new fighting methods, and developed new weapons. They replaced the slow, straight-sword with two curved blades that were faster and lighter. For the next 350 years, infantry was replaced with mounted archers, and we start to see the 13th century samurai form (Blumberg 3). The Bushido Code, the code that all samurai follow, helped form medieval Japan.
One of the major changes during that time portrayed in the book was the declining samurai class. In Japanese history, the period of time that is considered medieval is referred to as staring with the beginning of the Kamakura Shogunate period in 1185 CE, and ending with the Azuchi-Momoyama Period in 1615 CE. During this time period, Japan was ruled in a militaristic-style fashion by a progression of warrior-clan families, with each family known as a shogunate, or bakufu, in a system commonly referred to as feudalism. The teacher-student relationship has been linked to academic achievement throughout a student’s elementary and secondary educational years. This relationship is characterized by “having the presence of closeness, warmth, and positivity” (Baker et al., 2008; O’Connor, Dearing, & Collins, 2011; Silver, Measelle, Armstron, & Essex, 2005). When a teacher displays these characteristics, it enables students to feel safe and secure in their learning environments which in turn empowers the student towards high academic achievement. The following literature review will take ten examples that will show strong support to this hypothesis.

Controlling clans fought for parts of the land and overall control of the country. These clans were powerful families that resided in the country and who all wanted power and control of Japan for themselves. The families that would be in control were known as Shoguns. These shoguns would have warriors that fought for them if any of the other clan families would try to attack him in order to overthrow him and take his power from him.
