How the Environment Plays a Role In Learning
Throughout time we as humans have been learning and adapting to different environments. From birth to death. We are always changing where we may learn something and how to do things. From birth you are immediately learning how to breathe and how to function normally as a person. And as time goes on from birth you start to learn how to eat solid foods, walk, talk, and play. As you get older from there you are learning your culture and environment and how to look, act, and perform as people and these three things start to shape you as an individual. Like what you may like about someone and what you may not like about someone. once you start school you are now learning around you such as who people are, what their names are, and who you like and don’t like. and in a classroom that has small windows and large boards it can be a difficult time to learn if you are not placed into a proper setting to learn. From this point on you learn that the environment can help you learn . being outside helps with learning because while you’re outside it helps you open up your mind and take in information without being cluttered up in a classroom. While being outside your taking in fresh air allowing you to really focus on what you are trying to learn. While being outside you are also learning about your surroundings like animals, plant-life, and people around you. Also while outside when you are learning about animals and plant-life you are learning about what they are what eats the plant and what it does as a organism. The space and area in which a child is learning must be accommodating to all of their needs. A responsive environment is a space of any size that is set up and presented in a manner that promotes social-emotional development, physical development, spiritual development, intellectual/cognitive and language/literacy skills. It is important that the class or room promotes a healthy learning environment which allows the children to be independent while still pushing their skills and abilities. When building a classroom, the indoor learning environment will be influenced by the building and play area that surrounds the building. A classroom needs to have adequate space for children to play, explore and learn. Children need to have continuous access to water, bathrooms and a sink for handwashing. Although each room or center will be different they need to maintain areas that are easily and safely supervised from all areas of the classroom. The space needs to be organized into learning centers with well-defined areas. Areas such as science, art, sensory, bathrooms and eating areas need to be near a water source. Other areas such as block areas, library and housekeeping should be kept in areas with large area rugs or carpet.

The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
