English is an important language in the world. It is just like a bridge that connects different countries. For English language learners, it is necessary to improve English skills. Therefore, March Break is a good time to improve my English. In this March Break, I enhanced my English in oral, writing and reading areas.
To begin, I improved my oral English skills. Firstly, I improved my English by studying from others. Last Friday, I went to the Mississauga Trillium Hospital to listen to a great presentation about health by some health staffs such as the emergency physician, physiotherapist, and psychiatrist. During their presentation, I found that each presenter had different styles. For example, the psychiatrist is a funny person. He said that when he decided to be a psychiatrist, everyone around him thought he was as crazy as a patient. However, he kept studying psychiatry in medical school. Finally, he becomes an established psychiatrist. This presentation really enhanced my listening skills. Since I want to get more information about health care, I need to listen to every doctor’s speaking very carefully and write some notes at the same time. It was a good English practice for me. Secondly, I participated in some extracurricular activities. For instance, I got a piano instructor job which is to teach children to play the piano. This job can help me to communicate with youth and build a rapport with them while encouraging their interest in music. During the teaching, I think the most challenging thing is when my students ask me a question, because I feel nervous. However, after more and more practices, I found it was not that hard. In this experience, I became more confident to speak English. I think this job can motivate...

..., I did some OSSLT questions online. By doing these questions, I found a study tip, which is to always read the questions carefully first when you do multiple choice questions. When I read the article after looking at every question, I can get the answer quickly. Moreover, I like to summarize the question that I did wrong and get to know the reason, because it can help me improve accuracy next time. Lastly, by making a significant contribution to my vocabulary, it can help me understand a book easier. In general, I like reading so far and I will develop my skills more in the future.
Overall, I spent my time studying English effectively over the March Break. I have improved about my oral, reading and writing skills. However, learning English is a long term goal. We cannot just study English in March Break. In the future, I need to keep studying English every day.
I believe this semester helped my writing, and I think that is clear from the progression through each paper. When writing my first paper “A Rhetorical Analysis of Juan Enriquez’s Ted Talk” I felt unconfident in my skills as a writer, as they hadn’t been used for around a year. It shows unfortunately in the overall quality of the piece, and I remain unsatisfied with it. I was unsure of the concepts I was trying to argue, and the points I was trying to make, and having to analyze a video proved to be a difficult task for me. As a whole I think the paper shook me at the beginning of the semester and impacted the quality of my notes (Or lack there of), and my course attendance.
In general, I like this course because it taught me a lot of great things, such as how to revise the essay in order to make it better. My writing has improved a lot throughout this year, I learned how to organize my essay’s structure, using the transition sandwich to perfect my writing. In the future, I hope to continue developing all the skills that I learned in this English class, and I will continue to go to the Writing Center to ask for help to perfect my writing. However, it is the end of the year, but it does not mean that this is the end of my writing.
In this English course for the past semester, I have learned many new forms of essays and many new techniques. There was much more conversation with my classmates this year and I believe that lead me to a better class experience and grade. The essays have also taught me many new skills that can help me in the future. The rhetorical analysis, Causal Argument, and Proposal essay have taught me many new writing techniques and the advantages of peer review.
B. Berston M.D. once said: " ... a funny thing happens to medical students on their way to becoming physicians: they forget how to hold a conversation." I believe that my ability to communicate makes me well suited to pursue a medical career. While I possess the strong science background necessary for success in the profession, I also consider myself a " people" person. As a waiter and bartender, I dramatically improved and expanded my communication skills since I was constantly meeting new people and discussing different topics. Because people constantly disclosed thei...
It is time to explore the various side of the world. Even though I would I realize how much I am going to miss my hometown and people I used to see in everyday. However this is the good opportunity, which is not everyone, can get easily so I would take and use it effectually. I arrived in Florida On August 22, 2015. I came to this country with poor English skill. At first, My parents had to teach me how to say or use the words in different situations. My duty was memorize everything they taught me as much as possible. I went to school in Fort Lauderdale with the confusing mind I didn’t even know how to communicate with other people. In the first week was so tough for me I came back home with tear on my face and my mom saw it so she ask me if it is too much for me I can go back to Thailand and I said no I will not give up and I will not look back I have gone too far to turn back no matter how hard of obstacle is I have to go through it. Three weeks later I started to set up the rule for improving my English skill. The first rule is in each day I have to talk with somebody in the school don’t need to talk about knowledge stuff just say whatever you want to say and it was worth it. I had done for a week I could get a couple friends in each class. The second rule is when I come back home I have to study and keep practicing what is my weakness skill in
Last week, I decided to study English in college. My English that is still not good, but it is improving more than last year. I went to the orientation for the new students for the fall semester at the college. Most of the new students are American and some of them are international students as me. We had mentors to help us at orientation. The mentors, seven seniors and five college officials, helped us about
Finally, the experienced you faced in life are the only ones who make you improve in life. These three experiences have made me more powerful, more secure of my self. Now I’m in 12th grade and I have learn more and a better English, is not perfect, but, I understand more then before, and I can write better then in 8th and 9th grade, everything thanks to the friends who help me out, the teachers and my motive to make it possible, ignoring all the ignorant people who always have to think on you. I have learned that in this country for be someone is important to learn and speak English, but you always have to be positive and make that come true. My goal now is to speak, read, write, and understand more by putting more of my part so I can defend my self from everything.
I learned to love my profession and indeed, I realized how meaningful nursing is. I am dedicated and want to take all opportunities available for me to become a better professional nurse and to improve healthcare as a whole. Volunteering in the Columbia Student Medical Outreach Program at Columbia University and participating as a sub-member in the Community Outreach and Education Committee gave me more opportunities to interact with patients to strengthen my clinical and communication skills. Also, I spent much time as a leader of my university’s medical volunteer club ‘AGAPE’. It was valuable for me to meet many students from other universities who had different majors in the healthcare field. Moreover, I interacted with foreigners and improved my interpersonal competencies. I managed to see how simple changes can save lives, such as educating people about the disease, which not only saves lives but surely improves the quality of
The English classes that I have taken over the course of my years in school have always been greatly enjoyable. Fortunately, I've been lucky to have had amazing teachers, more than eager to aid me in improving my writing. I believe that as far as my writing skills, there is always room for improvement. There will always be another vocabulary word to learn, or a writing style to master. Although I am not necessarily striving for perfection (I don't dream of being the next Mark Twain or F. Scott Fitzgerald), improving my personal best is what I am invariably working towards. This year in English 101 has served as a very significant step in my writing journey. It gave me a push into the “bootcamp” of college writing, while still retaining certain aspects of writing that I find truly enjoyable.
As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay.
In the end, this semester has really helped me out with my writing skills. It opened my eyes to the simple fact that writing does not always have to be miserable and boring. Having the right subject to write about can make or break your attitude about the papers you have to write, personal ones were never something that I would dread to write. Learning how to incorporate rhetorical styles into my papers really did help spice them up and make them more interesting. The online discussions showed me how to be more outgoing and reach out to other people to help edit my paper and return favors in the end. Over all this English class has changed my outlook on English in general and really did help me enjoy it a little bit more.
1. I encountered the most significant challenge when I moved to Canada in January, 2012. Before I came to Canada, my English grade was very good in China, thus, I thought living and studying in Canada would not be too difficult. However, I did not do well in the ESL evaluation at all, and I was placed in ESL 1 at my high school. Most of my classmates there spoke very little English, and they did not spend much time and effort on studying English. It was very difficult for me to study if I wanted to be their friends and at that time, they were the only friends I had in Canada. However, I expected much more effort from myself. I studied very hard and became the 2nd fastest ESL students ever to complete ESL 1 to 4 in my high school. Today, when I recall what I have accomplished, I think I learnt to trust myself and at the same, success in anything only comes from hard work.
Writing and reading are two nessesary skills that I need while I am learning a new language. After I moved to the US I started to realize that speaking basic English is not enough to be successful. I did well in my first job interview using my speaking skills – I got a job! But in the first day of work I understood that I would have to change my mind from “I really want to improve my English” to “ I really need to improve my English”. Participaiting in English classes helps me with my struggles in reading and writing.
In most institutions of learning today, the classes are made up of students from different ethnic backgrounds. These have different traditions and also speak different languages. In a typical classroom, the majority of the students will speak the same language. The teacher must then employ strategies which will accommodate all the students in the class. This will ensure that every learner gets the best quality of education. This will enable them to be better prepared for career and expressing themselves. In this paper, strategies to assist learners of the English language in their literal development for third grade learners. In the paper, three strategies that can be used by the teacher will be discussed. New strategies and research that will help the English language learners to gain in depth mastery of the language will also be discussed. Due to the widespread learning of the English language in most schools, addressing issues of the language learners is of vital importance. Teachers should have the understanding that cultures are what give someone identity and therefore no student should leave their culture for another. Instead, there should be the blending of different cultures so that students can appreciate and learn from each other.
Let me elaborate on the program that we offer and the importance for you to pursue self development and how it will motivate, inspiring and benefit you as individual and management as a whole. In a survey of employers done by Job Outlook 2009 shows that oral communication skills ranked first in such critical areas a...
