At the beginning of the class I went in not knowing much about good writing. I have always had a hard time with correct punctuation placement, grammar, sentence structure, format, citations, and producing a formal tone in my writing. I struggled tremendously at the beginning as we prepared to write our Topic Approval Papers. A lot of the skills I lacked coming in the class showed in my writing starting with the Topic Approval paper. I received the grade of a 76 out 100, which isn’t terrible, but tells me that my writing skills are less than average. At the end of the paper I had received a comment expressing that my topic was good, but I failed to relate my topic to the Global food crisis, and perhaps more proofreading and grammar checks were needed. An extension of help was offered to me to come by before the assignments were due, to get extra help on my paper. Not taking the offer may have been what hurt my papers in the end because I wasn’t getting to the source of the problem in my papers, which lead me to continue the bad habits of misspelled words, informal tones, grammatical errors, and much more. Receiving the grade of a C, made me want to improve more on my papers because I knew I was capable of more. I look out more for misspelled words, and instead of writing a paper just to fill out the assignment with a lot of unnecessary information. I look more to writing the main points of the topic. Writing assessment A and B was great proof of the improvement of my skills through the semester. In assessment A I wrote about every aspect of the Mountain Dew commercial including the background happenings, and the music. In assessment B there was a lot less descriptive information, and more reasoning behind the actual purpose of the commercial, and who they were trying to target. I received the grade of 10 out of 10 on both
