For as long as I can remember steroids and human growth hormones have always been making ripples in the sports world. Steroids have also always been a controversial topic in professional sports. This controversy has always had the same answer- under no circumstances are anabolic steroids and human growth hormones allowed in professional sports. I think that it is time to change that. If you asked someone why they watch sports, they would most likely say for entertainment. That’s why sports are played in 100,000 seat stadiums and watched by millions more on television. For males, steroids may cause breast development due to the boost of hormones in the body. For women, they may experience extreme growth in body hair as well as baldness. These effects are bad, but not as bad as the long term effects. If you abuse the use of steroids you are at risk of high blood pressure and heart attacks. However, these effects are rare, the short term effects are more common. Nobody is making professional athletes take steroids, either. What I am proposing in this essay is that they get the option to. Steroids are a controversial topic that has always been banned in sports. I think that this year, this new generation, it is time for a change. Steroids will be a catalyst making for better athletes, getting more people to watch and pay for tickets and memorabilia that will be making the teams more money. Allowing steroids won’t mean any regular people in these leagues, it will mean that the very talented athletes would become better.
